Suman Shrestha's own goal in the 5th minute helped Vietnam win against Nepal on the evening of October 14 at Thong Nhat Stadium.
Coach Kim Sang Sik explained the unconvincing victory: "The bad weather conditions greatly affected the players' performance. We could not score more goals.
Anyway, the victory came and that is the joy I want to send to the fans. Winning was the goal of the Vietnamese team but the heavy rain and slippery field affected it."
The Korean coach added: "Even though we are playing at home, we cannot think that we are better than our opponents. Many players have not grasped their opportunities, seeming a bit hasty and exhausted."
Regarding striker Nguyen Tien Linh being substituted before the end of the match, Mr. Kim Sang Sik said: "The player is probably the one who regrets the most about those opportunities. I hope Tien Linh will score against the Laos team in the next match. After all, Linh is still a good striker in the 16m50 area."
Mr. Kim had many compliments for the U23 Vietnam players who played in this match. He praised center back Hieu Minh, whose header caused the Nepalese player to score an own goal.
"The U23 Vietnam players have shown maturity and fair competition with experienced players in the Vietnam national team. That is beneficial."
