According to New Zealand coach Jorge Vilda, the Vietnamese women's team defended resolutely, but Spain neutralized this effectively with an energetic team play in the friendly match on July 14th.
"We beat an opponent who played cohesively, marked closely, and didn't let themselves be easily beaten," Vilda told Diario Sport . "We did well in our final test before the 2023 Women's World Cup."
The match at McLennan Park on the morning of July 14th saw Spain win 9-0, with seven goals scored in the second half. The European representatives achieved their dual objectives of keeping a clean sheet and maintaining aggressive possession to find space. "We pressed and didn't let Vietnam get close to the goal. The players moved the ball well and understood the game plan," added coach Vilda.
