It seemed that the victory over Borussia Dortmund in the German Super Classic last weekend would help Bayern Munich continue their winning streak when facing Freiburg in the quarter-finals of the German Cup, but in the end, the "Gray Tigers" had to stop after conceding a goal in the 90+5 minute.

Bayern Munich quickly took control of the game when the referee blew the whistle to start the match and created many sharp attacks. In the 19th minute, from a corner kick by Kimmich, center-back Upamecano headed in a dangerous header to open the scoring for the home team.
Despite being behind, Freiburg still played with determination and launched many dangerous counter-attacks. In the 25th minute, Eggestein missed the chance to equalize when his header went just wide of the post.
However, just 2 minutes later, midfielder Nicolas Hofler decisively shot from a distance of more than 25m, defeating goalkeeper Sommer to level the score at 1-1.

Bayern still created many opportunities in the second half of the first half but unfortunately missed them all, notably goalkeeper Ginter's goal-line save in the 45+2 minute to deny Muller.

Bayern Munich continued to witness an unlucky second half, when Kimmich hit the crossbar in the 62nd minute before Gnabry sent the ball wide of the post in the 89th minute.
Disaster struck Bayern in the 90+3 minute, Musiala used his hand to block Hofler's shot in the home team's penalty area and the referee awarded Freiburg a penalty.

It was Hofler who stepped up to the penalty spot and despite the pressure that led to a yellow card from Pavard, he made Freiburg fans burst into joy with a powerful shot into the top corner to seal a 2-1 victory, causing Bayern to stop in the German Cup and end their dream of winning the treble this season.
Coach Thomas Tuchel suffered his first defeat after only two matches in charge of Bayern Munich. In round 27 of the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich met Freiburg at their opponent's home ground.
