"Playing against Indonesia is a good thing. I talked to the players that we want to play against Indonesia because there will be a lot of fans coming to watch. The more we play against the host country, the more we evaluate the potential of the team, because if we want to return to the championship, we have to overcome everything," he said.
"We have prepared for the semi-final against Indonesia. We know that in the ASEAN region, they are the top team. Playing against a strong team is proof that if we want to return to the number one position in ASEAN, we have to be ready to face everyone. We will learn from our mistakes and correct them. I think in the future, the team's potential will improve even more."
However, the coach of U23 Thailand still admitted that his team is facing many problems. This was clearly reflected after the two recent matches against Timor Leste and Myanmar.
“Myanmar defended very disciplined, making it difficult for us to penetrate. We did not play really well because we also lost the ball quite a lot. But I think the match was still better than the first match because we controlled the ball better,” coach Thawatchai emphasized.
In addition to overcoming weaknesses in ball control and finishing, U23 Thailand also has to face physical concerns as they only have 2 days of rest before the match against Indonesia in the semi-finals.
"Recovery is what we are most worried about because the team only has two days off. We know we will face Indonesia, so we have to prepare the best squad possible and help the players maintain their best physical condition," said Thawatchai Damrong-Ongtrakul.
