The rare beauty of Ba Be Lake in the leaf-changing season
In the last days of the year, the Ba Be Lake area in Bac Kan takes on a different beauty when the primeval forests around the lake change color. The yellow and orange colors of the leaves blend with the blue water and the mist, creating a peaceful ink painting, attracting tourists looking for tranquility.
Ba Be Lake is one of the largest natural freshwater lakes in the North, formed more than 200 million years ago and was once ranked in the Top 20 most beautiful freshwater lakes in the world . With an area of about 500 hectares and a length of more than 8 km, the lake is surrounded by majestic limestone mountains and a vast primeval forest system belonging to Ba Be National Park.

Journey on the lake
An experience not to be missed when coming to Ba Be this season is rowing a boat on the calm lake. The sound of oars gently splashing in the quiet space, amidst the thin mist covering the water surface, takes visitors to another world. This is an opportunity to admire the unique limestone ecosystem, where ancient trees grow precariously on high cliffs, reaching out between the clouds and sky.

Photographer Nguyen Quynh Anh – Roi shared about her experience: “I have been to many places and taken many beautiful pictures, but the trip to Ba Be in early winter brought a very different feeling. Among the changing leaves and the misty lake, I felt an indescribable peace.”
He added that what moved him most was the journey on a dugout canoe rowed by Tay women. They know every rhythm of the water, every ravine, and take tourists to places only known to the locals, where the light and shadows of the mountains reflect on the lake surface, creating rare frames.

Unique indigenous culture
The beauty of Ba Be lies not only in its majestic natural landscape but also in the rich cultural life of the Tay and Nung ethnic communities living along the lake. The natural scenery blends with the legend of Ba Goa Island, the melodious sound of the Tinh lute or the Then singing echoing in the mist, making the space both mysterious and warm with human affection.
The simple, rustic life of local people in stilt houses and small boats anchored on the shore are also an inseparable part of the Ba Be picture, giving visitors deep memories of a pristine and richly cultural land.
