Ho Hoai Anh 'thanks for the quiet time to reflect'

Appearing at the launch of singer Nguyen Ngoc Anh's album 'The Promise', Ho Hoai Anh said that he was fortunate to have had some quiet time to reflect, experience, and realize what is truly important to him.

During the launch of singer Nguyen Ngoc Anh's album "The Promise" on the afternoon of October 16th in Hanoi , Ho Hoai Anh openly shared about the challenging and transformative period he has recently gone through.

Ho Hoai Anh's song "has something more agonizing about it."

Regarding the reason for inviting Ho Hoai Anh to compose songs for her fourth album, singer Nguyen Ngoc Anh told Tuoi Tre Online that when the musician was going through difficulties, she messaged him, encouraging him to start writing music again. She asked Ho Hoai Anh to write several new songs for her album.

"At that time, I thought he was drowning in sadness, but he answered immediately. He accepted. Ho Hoai Anh is a very good person when it comes to his friends. That's why, even when Ho Hoai Anh was going through the most difficult times, he always had many friends and brothers by his side," singer Nguyen Ngoc Anh said.

Ngoc Anh said she commissioned Ho Hoai Anh to write songs for an album that would express the complete happiness she was experiencing. However, three of the songs written for Ngoc Anh still contained elements of pain.

Ho Hoai Anh admitted that he couldn't write pop music, especially now, with the current trends in pop songs. "There's something more agonizing about it." Like the song "3 Meters in the Sky, " which tells the story of losses that prevent one from ever reaching heaven again.

"My songs are usually a bit poignant, with explosive emotional climaxes; I rarely feel happy during the songwriting process. I only have a few cheerful songs, and those are in Luu Huong Giang's album," Ho Hoai Anh said.

Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online, musician Ho Hoai Anh added that he previously spent a lot of time on various types of work.

Recently, he's had some quiet time to reflect, experience more, and realize what's truly essential for his life. Ho Hoai Anh chose to withdraw from the spotlight, dedicating more time to writing music than before, and has achieved many successes as a result.

Ho Hoai Anh said that the past period has also been a very touching time for him, as he received much love from friends during difficult times. He will have another album by another singer at the end of the year and yet another one at the beginning of next year.

There are several upcoming, well-funded programs about Vietnamese history, and Ho Hoai Anh has taken on the responsibility of composing the music entirely for these programs.

Regarding the reason why making the album "Lời hẹn ước" (Promise) is expensive and sometimes not as effective as singers making music videos, singer Nguyen Ngoc Anh said she realized that the time she has to sing and reach audiences as a pop artist is running out. Therefore, she wants to create more products.

This album marks a significant shift in Ngoc Anh's singing style.

The album comprises 8 songs with a diverse musical style, blending pop with various influences such as rock, R&B, ballad, retro, and city pop.

Among these, Ho Hoai Anh composed three songs, including "Closing Down in a Dull Way," which Ngoc Anh made a music video for and released in September, "Sleeping in the Same Bed, Dreaming Different Ways," sung with Tung Duong, and a pop ballad, which is Nguyen Ngoc Anh's forte.

Ho Hoai Anh said that "Sleeping in the same bed but dreaming different dreams" was a difficult task, as he had to compose a song for two voices with two different musical personalities. He liked the song because of that interesting combination.

In addition, singer Ngoc Anh's husband, singer To Minh Duc, not only sang duets with her but also took on many other important roles such as producing and composing the song "Lời hẹn ước" (The Promise).
