Tourist Karsten Vollmer filmed the cobra's meal while visiting Addo Elephant National Park, Latest Sightings reported on April 28. "We were driving towards Hapoordam to look for elephants when my wife spotted a strange-looking snake on the road. I turned around and to my surprise, it was a cobra. It had another snake in its mouth and was swallowing it whole," he said.
"We were amazed by the strength and agility of the cobra as it devoured the snake. We also noticed that the cobra was quite agitated by our presence, quickly disappearing into the bushes when it finished eating," Vollmer added.

The South African cobra ( Naja nivea ), also known as the golden cobra, is known for its deadly venom and is considered one of the most dangerous snakes in Africa. They are quite aggressive and will raise their bodies and flare their necks when threatened.
The venom of the cobra is very potent and the animal is responsible for many deaths each year. However, they play an important role in their ecosystem. They eat a wide range of prey, including rodents, birds, and other snakes.
Interestingly, the cobra has a particular fondness for other snakes and will readily eat them, including venomous snakes such as Bitis arietans , a member of the pit viper family. The cobra frequently engages in combat with other snakes, often resulting in the death of the opponent. The reasons for this behavior are not fully understood, but it is likely a way to reduce competition for resources.
