After more than 3 years of implementing the Project "Developing concentrated fruit growing areas in the period of 2021-2025, with a vision to 2030" in Dam Ha district, positive results have been achieved. However, in order to expand and effectively implement the Project in the coming time, the highlight is to develop passion fruit into an agricultural product for export of the district, voters requested the province and district to pay attention to supporting materials to prevent and control pests and diseases for crops in a safe direction, meeting sustainable export standards.

The purple passion fruit growing model was implemented by the Dam Ha District Agricultural Technical Service Center in coordination with Truong Giang General Agricultural Production Cooperative (Truong Giang Cooperative) on an area of 3 hectares in Trai Dinh village (Dam Ha commune) from the end of 2023. To implement the model, the commune promoted and mobilized farmers to lend ineffective and vacant land areas to Truong Giang Cooperative for a pilot purple passion fruit growing program. Participating in the pilot model, the Cooperative received 70% support from the District Agricultural Technical Service Center for seeds, fertilizers, irrigation systems, concrete columns; 100% of cultivation techniques.
Purple passion fruit trees are grown organically by Truong Giang Cooperative. Normally, purple passion fruit trees will bear fruit after about 9 months, however, at Truong Giang Cooperative, they can be harvested after more than 6 months, shortening the time by more than 2 months.
Through evaluation, purple passion fruit is quite suitable for the land and climate in the district, the fruit is round, hard-shelled, delicious quality, rich in nutrients. During the planting process, Viet Fruit Company ( Ho Chi Minh City) sent technical staff to guide and supervise according to the correct process, meeting Global GAP standards. Through inspection, purple passion fruit at Truong Giang Cooperative does not have 570 prohibited substances in agriculture, and Viet Fruit Company purchases all products for export to France. Recently, the first tons of passion fruit were purchased by Viet Fruit Company at the garden, priced at 20,000 VND/kg.

Mr. Dang Van Giang, Director of Truong Giang Cooperative, said: Growing purple passion fruit according to Global GAP standards requires a strict source of fertilizers and biological products for the plants to achieve export to Europe. The model has initially created a chain of production cooperation. Therefore, the Cooperative hopes to receive further support from the province and district to expand production, meeting sustainable export standards.
It is expected that 3 hectares of purple passion fruit will yield 50 tons of fruit per year. In the first year, investment must be made in seeds, irrigation systems, and concrete pillars. After deducting expenses, the profit will be from 400-500 million VND. If planted and cared for well in the second year, the profit will be about 200 million VND/ha/year.
With initial successes, expanding the model, connecting with households to replicate, contributing to helping farmers increase their income and become rich legitimately in their homeland is very necessary. Mr. Tran Van Huan, Head of the District Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said: In the coming time, the department will continue to advise the District People's Committee to synchronously deploy solutions to implement the Project. In which, focusing on implementing the province's support policies, such as Resolution No. 194, Resolution No. 15 of the Provincial People's Council to support agricultural production projects to ensure sustainable development.
According to the Project, by 2025, the area of fruit trees in the whole district will reach about 400 hectares, the output of all kinds of fruit is estimated at 5,200 tons/year; by 2030, it will be 1,500 hectares, the output is 21,600 tons/year. To achieve the above goal, the concentrated fruit growing area and the passion fruit growing model really need the attention and support of the province and district.
