Little girl Nguyen Thao Chi (TDP 1 Nam Ha, Thanh Sen ward) is just 10 years old this year, a student of class 5A - Nam Ha Primary School.
Unlike her peers who like toys, surfing the web, etc., she chose for herself a world of colors, brushes and brilliant dreams on paper. The colorful landscape paintings, funny portraits or daily stories expressed by her innocent and pure strokes made me eager to meet her.

It was a weekend morning, Thao Chi attended the drawing class of Mr. Le Quoc Hung - Head of the Department of Art (Nguyen Du College). She sat at the corner of the small table, her eyes attentively following each stroke of the teacher's brush. In front of her was a pure white sheet of paper, next to it was a familiar pencil, colorful watercolor boxes. Her hair was tied neatly at the nape of her neck, her small hands moved skillfully, sometimes meticulously sketching each stroke, sometimes firmly mixing the brush with colors like a real artist. After only a few minutes, the scene of a grand Mid-Autumn Festival party of children with Uncle Cuoi and Ms. Hang appeared vividly, full of emotions. Her confident drawing was like that, but Thao Chi was a very quiet, gentle and somewhat shy person.
She innocently said: “I really like drawing. Every time my parents take me to a beautiful place or think of a story, I want to draw to capture that image with the colors I like. I like drawing landscapes the most. From the moment I start sketching the picture, I can freely imagine and draw what I think and what I want to say.”

Thao Chi's talent for painting began when she was 5 years old, from simple drawings of flowers, houses, and her small family. Seeing her passion, her parents encouraged her and found a painting class so that Chi could study painting systematically; accompanying and following her in every step of her growth so that she could nurture her dreams and interests.
Ms. Nguyen Hong Ngoc - Thao Chi's mother shared: "No one in my family is an artist, but from a very early age, my child showed interest in colors and drawing. On her desk, there are pictures drawn by her everywhere. At first, I didn't pay much attention, but later on, many of the pictures had a "soul" that made me think seriously and decide to accompany her. Since she started attending drawing classes at the age of 5, she has hundreds of pictures, and from June 2025 until now, she has drawn about 100 pictures."

According to Ngoc, the special thing about Thao Chi is that she observes very carefully. Before drawing a picture, she will spend a lot of time observing and looking at the movements and characteristics of objects, so when it is transformed into a picture, it is very realistic and vivid. For example, when Chi and her friends draw a picture of a school of Koi fish swimming, she only stops at one most unique fish and depicts it with its own meaning.

Or like the set of paintings about the Mid-Autumn Festival, I had been nurturing my ideas for a month before. This year's Mid-Autumn Festival, Thao Chi had 4-5 paintings about the Mid-Autumn Festival, each one showing a different mood: sometimes bustling, bustling with the sound of lion drums, children's laughter; sometimes the big golden moon shining down on the earth.

In one picture, I drew children happily carrying star lanterns, clearly reflected in the shadow of the full moon; in another, the image of Hang and Cuoi appeared shimmering in the magical night sky...
Each work is a mosaic of innocent and genuine emotions of the "child artist" about her pure childhood, making viewers feel like they can touch that magical world.

Mr. Le Quoc Hung - Head of the Department of Art (Nguyen Du College), said: “Nguyen Thao Chi started attending the center in the summer of 2025. What impressed me about her was her diligence, always coming to class first and leaving last, paying attention to every word the teacher taught. She is very sensitive to color and composition, from the arrangement and organization of visual elements to the way of mixing and processing colors to create harmony in the painting. The more she studies, the more she reveals her independent artistic thinking, knowing how to convey her story through each stroke. Although she is still young, many of her paintings have achieved emotional depth and sophistication.”

When asked about her dream, Thao Chi shyly said: “I will try to study well, not only in art but also in other subjects to understand more about the world around me. From there, I can draw more pictures of life and the beauty of my homeland in my colorful world, where everyone will be happy and joyful.”

Amidst the pressures of life, the naive, innocent paintings of the 10-year-old "child artist" are like a healing medicine for my adult heart, reminding me of a life that is inherently simple and plain, yet sometimes forgotten.
I believe that today's small brush strokes will paint big pictures, not only on canvas but also by the soul and aspirations of a girl who loves art and life with all the purest colors.
