Hawthorn flowers (or cat apple flowers) are grown a lot in Son La and Yen Bai provinces... The blooming season lasts from late February to late March every year.
Hawthorn flowers have 5 ivory white petals, yellow pistils, when blooming into clusters of flowers that hug the rustic branches, like giant snowflakes. Hawthorn flowers have a simple, rustic beauty, symbolizing the enduring, resilient vitality of the Mong ethnic group.
Previously, crab apple trees grew naturally in the forest, but later people brought them back and planted them in large numbers in villages.
Currently, the place where the most hawthorn trees are grown and the flowers bloom most beautifully is in Nam Nghiep village, Ngoc Chien commune, Muong La district, Son La .
Mr. Huy Hoang (photographer from Hanoi) shared: "Nam Nghiep is so beautiful because everything is still wild, at a high altitude so the weather is cooler and more pleasant than in the plains. I fell in love with Nam Nghiep from a photo shoot of flowers in early March during an inspection trip with a group of tourists ."
