Director Tran Anh Hung at the workshop held as part of the Autumn Meeting 2023 on the morning of July 6th.
2023 marks the eighth year that director Tran Anh Hung has returned as a lecturer for the directing class within the framework of "Autumn Meeting".
Tran Anh Hung is a renowned director with a significant position and voice in the Asian and global film community. This event marks his first return to Vietnam since winning the "Best Director" award at the 76th Cannes Film Festival for his film "The Passion of Doudin-Bouffant".
The film, starring screen star Juliette Binoche, was a memorable milestone in Tran Anh Hung's career, following the "Golden Lion" award at the 52nd Venice Film Festival (1995), the "Golden Lens" award at the 46th Cannes Film Festival (1993), and a 1994 Oscar nomination for "Best Foreign Language Film".
Tran Anh Hung is a mentor, an older brother, and an inspiration to many young Vietnamese and Asian directors through courses at "Autumn Meeting".
Participants from previous seasons of this workshop were selected from Vietnam, Taiwan (China), South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, Germany, and France.
Many participants in this workshop have had feature films selected and awarded prizes at film festivals in Berlin, Toronto, Rotterdam, and Busan, and short films selected for the main competition rounds at film festivals in Berlin, Venice, Locarno, and Busan.
Tran Anh Hung is a renowned director.
This year, the workshop selected 16 official participants from Thailand, Cambodia, China, Singapore, Taiwan (China), Germany, France, and Vietnam. Uisenmar Borchu, a German participant of Mongolian descent whose feature film was selected for the Berlin Film Festival, is one of this year's participants. She is also a familiar female director at "Autumn Encounter," having previously screened and participated in forums on women filmmakers in previous seasons.
Participants in this workshop will have all their accommodation and meals covered by the organizers throughout the duration of the course. Participants from Southeast Asia will also have their airfare covered. All participants must be proficient in English to attend the course.
