On the afternoon of June 2nd, after completing the Mathematics exam, students wishing to enter specialized high schools and integrated classes in 10 high schools will begin taking their specialized subject exam. This is the final subject of the 10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City.
At the exam site at Trung Vuong High School (Saigon Ward), many students arrived early at 12:30 PM to prepare for the specialized subject exam. Some students from distant areas were allowed to stay and rest during lunchtime within the school grounds.
Tran Manh Quang (a 9th-grade student at Nguyen Du Secondary School) shared that he felt quite relaxed entering the specialized subject exam. The male student aims to get into the specialized Math class at Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted. “Even though the competition is high, I don’t see it as pressure. Of the three subjects I took, Math was my best because the questions were easier than in previous years. I hope the specialized subject exam will be within the scope of my knowledge and the types of questions I’ve practiced,” Quang shared.
Pham Mai Anh (a student from Le Quy Don Secondary School), who is taking the specialized literature exam to enter Tran Dai Nghia High School, shared that she approached the exam with the mindset of facing higher pressure and challenging her abilities. "I think getting a high score in Literature sometimes requires a bit of luck, along with the perspectives and knowledge I've accumulated," Mai Anh said.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, four specialized high schools in the city are recruiting 10th-grade students: Le Hong Phong Specialized High School, Tran Dai Nghia Specialized High School, Hung Vuong Specialized High School, and Le Quy Don Specialized High School. A total of over 11,100 students registered to take the specialized subject exam, and nearly 1,800 students registered for integrated classes at 10 high schools.
Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted had the highest number of applications with 5,738 preferences, while the quota was only 805 students, a ratio of 1 in 7.1; Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted had a ratio of 1 in 4.8; Hung Vuong High School for the Gifted had a ratio of 1 in 3.3; and Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted had a ratio of 1 in 2.5.
