Regarding the fact that nearly 1,400 students of the American International School Vietnam (AISVN International School) had to stay home from school, on the evening of March 18, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ut Em - Chairwoman of the school board sent an email to all parents, announcing that the school would open and resume teaching on March 19.
Parents gathered at PC03 to file a complaint against the Chairman of the AISVN International School Board.
" After a day of working with agencies and investors, the school's human resources and financial issues are still being resolved.
The School Board would like to inform parents that the school will resume operations tomorrow (March 19), to ensure the interests of all current students.
There will still be unavoidable disruption to teaching and learning this week. The school will promptly address urgent issues so that teaching and learning can return to normal as soon as possible," the email said.
On the same afternoon, dozens of parents of AISVN International School gathered at the headquarters of the Department of Investigation Police on Corruption, Economic Crimes, Smuggling, and Environmental Crimes - Ho Chi Minh City Police (PC03) and the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, to report the school's suspension of nearly 1,400 students on March 18 and many other issues related to the school.
According to parents, yesterday (March 17), the school board of AISVN International School held a meeting with parents to inform them about the school's operations.
At the meeting, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ut Em said that the school's financial situation is currently difficult and unstable. The school has not been able to pay teachers and staff for many months. Although the school has focused on finding solutions to the current financial difficulties, it has not been feasible.
The meeting lasted more than 8 hours, but no common voice was found between the school and parents.
At 9:00 p.m. the same day, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ut Em sent an email to all parents, announcing that students would be temporarily off school on March 18.
Ms. TH, a parent of a 12th grade student, was upset: " The current emergency is that nearly 1,400 students, our children, have to drop out of school. Without deeply discussing the issue of financial violations, the fact that students have to suddenly drop out of school is unacceptable."
Mr. QC, a parent of three students studying at AISVN International School, said he had paid 14 billion VND to the school for his children to attend the full course. He and his wife are currently very upset with the school's behavior.
" The current problem is not just a dialogue between Ms. Ut Em and the parents, I think it is necessary to have the participation of the authorities. We cannot let Ms. Ut Em lead us any longer and should not believe any more promises from the school," said Mr. QC.
Responding to VTC News, Mr. Ho Tan Minh, Chief of Office of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said he had received the above information.
" The Department has received the information and is monitoring it. The information was just available today. As soon as we received the information, the Department immediately sent a letter inviting the school to come to work tomorrow," said Mr. Ho Tan Minh.
At 4:30 p.m., the Department received the parent representatives and recorded the meeting content.
Previously, in September 2023, many parents in Ho Chi Minh City gathered to demand debt from the American International School Vietnam. Many parents reported that they lent the school tens of billions of dong without interest so that their children could study for free, but by the time their children graduated, they had not yet received any repayment.
