As reported by Thanh Nien , the People's Committee of Hoi An City has just held a meeting to introduce the draft plan to strengthen the management of tour guide activities in Hoi An ancient town, which will be implemented from today (May 15). The new plan has many changes compared to the old plan, focusing only on controlling tourists traveling in groups to create fairness between ticket buyers and non-ticket buyers, between legitimate and illegitimate tour operators. As for individual tourists, buying tickets is encouraged, if buying is good, but not required.

Hoi An ancient town is sometimes overloaded with tourists.

DO NOT LEAD TOURS OR GROUPS GOING INTO ALLEYS

Specifically, Hoi An City will deploy personnel suitable for the job requirements to be on duty at ticket counters to welcome, guide and invite visitors to buy tickets before entering the ancient town. The locality focuses on strictly controlling and requiring the purchase of tickets for tourists traveling in groups for the purpose of sightseeing and groups organized by travel agencies to bring visitors to visit the ancient town. A system of signs and information boards to guide visitors is placed at the starting points of the "Street for pedestrians and non-motorized vehicles" area and the beginning of the routes into the ancient town.

Tourists traveling in groups or on tours will be arranged to receive and sell tickets from a distance, right from the city's parking lots (such as 332 Ly Thuong Kiet parking lot, Thanh Ha parking lot, Long Tuyen Pagoda parking lot). In addition, combining the sale of sightseeing tickets with the transportation activities of the electric car business to facilitate visitors. Tourists will be transferred by electric car from the parking lots to the pick-up and drop-off points at 8 Hoang Dieu, Hoi An Museum yard, and Song Hoai Square yard. From there, there will be a force to guide tourists into the old town along the route; not leading visitors into small alleys, lanes, and alleys. Particularly for Hoi An residents and individuals and organizations coming to the old town for other than sightseeing purposes, they can enter the old town from all entrances.

In addition, group visitors will be picked up at some starting points of main roads to create attentive and professional service. At the alleys and lanes leading to the old quarter, there will be staff deployed to support inspection and guide visitors to the right route during the visit.

C ONLY SELL TICKETS TO ENTER CORE ZONE

Mr. Nguyen Van Lanh, Vice Chairman of Hoi An City People's Committee, said that since 1995, the plan to issue general tickets for the entire "core area" - area 1 of Hoi An ancient town has changed many times, improving the organization method and program content. Tickets are sold at a price of 120,000 VND/ticket for international visitors (6 ticket boxes equivalent to 6 tourist attractions) and 80,000 VND/ticket for domestic visitors (4 ticket boxes equivalent to 4 tourist attractions). Each visitor will have a general ticket box to visit the ancient town landscape, visit and experience the lifestyle of Hoi An people with daily activities, folk games, watch traditional art performances on every street corner... and choose for themselves a destination of many types of relics in 25 typical tourist attractions.

According to Mr. Lanh, the entrance ticket is actually limited to area 1 of the old quarter. This "core area" of only 4 square kilometers is home to 1,273 architectural and artistic relics.

Mr. Nguyen Van Son, Chairman of Hoi An City People's Committee, said that the development and implementation of a plan to strengthen the management of tour guide activities in the old town aims to control and reduce the number of people entering the old town (during peak hours from 5-9pm every day), reduce pressure on the core area of the heritage, and limit the degradation of relics and infrastructure in the core area. In addition, it creates fairness between ticket buyers and non-ticket buyers, avoiding some travel agencies from illegally bringing tourists into the old town. "The money collected from ticket sales will create a source of investment for heritage, restoring ancient houses, upgrading infrastructure, building festival programs... to keep Hoi An better", Mr. Son affirmed.
