Hoi An is the next representative of Vietnam to officially become a member of the UNESCO Global Creative Cities Network in the field of Crafts and Folk Arts.

On the afternoon of October 31, the Hoi An City Center for Culture - Sports and Radio - Television announced that on October 31, the Secretariat of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network confirmed that Hoi An is the next representative of Vietnam to officially become a member of the UNESCO Global Creative Cities Network in the field of Crafts and Folk Arts.
This is a great honor and pride of Hoi An people in particular and Quang Nam , Vietnam in general.
The UNESCO Creative Cities Network was established in 2004 with the aim of enhancing cooperation between cities that have been recognized as creative, considering this a strategic element for sustainable development in the economic , social and environmental fields.
As of October 2022, the UNESCO Creative Cities Network has 295 member cities from 90 countries and territories, including 59 cities in the field of crafts and folk arts.
In 2023, through a rigorous assessment process by the Secretariat and member cities on Hoi An's dossier and practical activities, the Creative Cities Network Secretariat announced Hoi An as an official member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.
Crafts and Folk Arts are outstanding strengths and are areas that Hoi An has preserved and effectively promoted in recent times.

Hoi An City currently has 5 traditional craft villages with nearly 50 active handicrafts, such as: carpentry, pottery, lantern making, bamboo and coconut making, garment making, leather making... Of which, 3 craft villages and 1 traditional craft have been recognized as National Intangible Heritage and 2 other craft villages are preparing documents for recognition.
The majority of Hoi An residents participate in handicraft and folk art activities formally or informally, including groups such as: freelance workers and handicraft producers and traders; groups of artists, artisans, individuals belonging to professional associations, operating creative craft workshops; the remaining group includes businesses and traders in the field of handicraft and folk art.
The city currently has a total of 658 small businesses and 1,710 business households operating in the handicraft and folk arts sector. It is estimated that about 4,000 direct workers earn an average income of 3,500-4,000 USD per year from handicraft and folk arts.
Joining the UNESCO Creative Cities Network is a favorable condition for Hoi An in positioning its brand, promoting its image in all fields of creative culture, contributing to attracting investment, focusing on educational development programs and cultural and creative events, aiming at sustainable development.
Becoming an official member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network is of great significance for the goal of enhancing the position and creating a new and attractive image for Hoi An. At the same time, to fulfill its commitment to the Network, Hoi An City will concretize the action plan to implement the initiative as well as connect the City's policies to promote related creative cultural fields.
