This is the 30th time the Bay Nui Bull Racing Festival has been held on a provincial scale, and also the first time it has been organized since the merger of An Giang and Kien Giang provinces. The bull pairs participating in this year's Bay Nui Bull Racing Festival come from communes and wards in An Giang province (mainly those in the Bay Nui region) such as Tri Ton, O Lam, Vinh Gia, Co To, Chi Lang, Tinh Bien…
The oxen will compete in a knockout format, determined by a draw. Each round features two pairs of oxen, with the driver controlling the oxen from a plow. After the starting signal, the oxen enter a release round, accelerating fiercely to win. The winning pair is the one that crosses the finish line first, or the pair that starts behind but whose front hooves touch the opponent's plow. The teams continue to compete in a knockout format until the final match to determine the champion. The organizers will award trophies, flags, prizes, and cash rewards for first, second, third, fourth, and consolation prizes, as well as an award for "Outstanding Ox Driver".
The Bay Nui Bull Racing Festival is held annually during the Sene Dolta Festival. This is one of the major festivals of the year for the Khmer people of Southern Vietnam in general and the Bay Nui region in particular. The Bay Nui Bull Racing Festival not only showcases the beautiful and humane traditional culture of the Khmer people of Southern Vietnam, but it is also a meaningful sporting and recreational event for Khmer farmers.
