This year’s Summit is a milestone as it features the 2nd ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit and the 1st ASEAN-GCC-China Summit, reflecting ASEAN’s growing partnership with other key regions.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the conference, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said that topics such as enhancing cooperation among member countries, promoting regional economic interests and promoting investment initiatives in ASEAN will be among the main focuses of this conference.
Assessing ASEAN’s future strategy, Prime Minister Ibrahim outlined a bold vision for regional growth, highlighting stronger economic integration, expanded trade and cross-border energy connectivity as key pillars of Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship this year.
He also pledged that Malaysia would move ASEAN beyond its traditional role as a neutral platform to become a more cohesive, values-driven force in the Indo- Pacific .
Within the framework of the 46th ASEAN Summit week, an exhibition area of local Malaysian goods was also held to introduce to conference delegates typical products of the host country, and at the same time, it was an opportunity to learn about and connect cultures among the 10 ASEAN member countries.
To ensure security for the conference, more than 6,000 police officers were mobilized at the international airport, hotels and the Convention Center with many modern equipment.
71 schools, government offices and private establishments located in affected areas have implemented remote work and learning during the conference to avoid traffic congestion and facilitate the movement of national leaders.
With the theme “Inclusive and Sustainable”, this will be the fifth time Malaysia will assume the ASEAN Chairmanship, following its terms in 1977, 1997, 2005 and 2015.
