The conference on information about the score distribution of the 2025 high school graduation exam took place from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on July 15. This is the first time the Ministry has organized an event specifically about score distribution, providing an overview and details of the high school graduation exam results.
Speaking at the opening of the conference, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong said that the conference was organized because this was the first year of exams following the 2018 general education program.
In recent years, the score distribution was only announced after the exam scores were released. However, this year the Ministry reversed the announcement process.
Tomorrow (July 16), at 8am, the results of the high school graduation exam will be updated on the system.
The high school graduation exam score distribution will help students and parents have a basis to make important decisions for upcoming university and college admissions.
The 2025 high school graduation exam will take place on June 26-27. This is a special exam of historical significance as it is the first year of taking the exam according to the 2018 generaleducation program and ensures the exam for students according to the 2006 general education program.
For candidates taking the 2018 program, instead of taking 6 subjects as before, the number of subjects is reduced to 4, including compulsory math and literature. In addition, students choose 2 subjects they have studied at school (chemistry, physics, biology, geography, history, economic and legal education, information technology, technology and foreign languages).
The 2025 high school graduation exam has nearly 1.17 million candidates registered to take the exam.
Of which, the number of candidates taking the current program is approximately 1.12 million, accounting for 96.33%.
The number of candidates taking the old program is 26,711, accounting for 2.29%.
According to score distribution analysis experts, of the 12 subjects, English has the best score distribution.
The 10 provinces with the highest English scores include: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Quang Ninh, Dien Bien, Hai Phong, Nghe An, Ninh Binh, Ha Tinh, Thanh Hoa.
Surprised with the results of the English exam for the 2025 High School Graduation
English score distribution in 2025 according to the 2018 General Education Program is as follows:

The average score for English this year is 5.38 points, the median score is 5.25.
Nationwide, there were 141 exams with a score of 10 and 2 exams with a score of 0.
In this year's exam, English is one of the optional subjects. Nationwide, nearly 1.17 million candidates took the High School Graduation Exam, however, only nearly 353,000 students registered to take the English exam under the 2018 General Education Program.
In 2024, English is a compulsory subject, so there are more than 906,000 candidates taking the exam nationwide. The average score of a candidate is 5.51 points and the highest score achieved by many candidates is 4.6 points.
However, last year, 565 candidates nationwide scored 10 in English.
After the 2025 high school graduation exam ended, many candidates rated the English exam as “the most difficult in history”, while experts said that the exam was academic in nature and became a real “shock” for students who did not have the conditions to take extra classes.
The Ministry of Education and Training affirmed: “The test does not exceed the requirements of the program. The required level of thinking (related to difficulty) closely follows the published reference test, has differentiation and is based on test results in all three regions.”

Mr. Mai Thanh Son, English teacher at Hanoi - Amsterdam High School (Hanoi) said that the subject test is suitable for English major students or those who are familiar with SAT, IELTS, and specialized exam preparation.
The previous sample test announced by the Ministry of Education and Training used all the materials from the current textbooks, and the difficulty level was not high. However, the official test increased the difficulty level significantly, and no current textbook could meet the requirements and difficulty level of the test.
The output standard requirement of grade 12, national general education program is B1, while the 2018 general education program exam is C1, or even higher.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hang, a foreign language teacher at a high school in Thanh Hoa, said: “The English test in the 2025 high school graduation exam was a “shock” to students. They felt “ambushed” because the difficulty level was much higher than the previous sample test announced by the Ministry of Education and Training.”
Based on the reality of this year's exam, teachers believe that it will have a negative impact on students in the next school year. The exam will be more difficult, and the questions will be based on knowledge that is not in the curriculum or textbooks, which will make 12th grade students next year worried, increasing their need to attend extra classes and go to exam preparation centers.
