Attending and chairing the press conference were Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho An Phong, Deputy Director of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism Ha Van Sieu. On the Quang Nam side, there were Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ho Quang Buu, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Thanh Hong.
According to the press conference, the first international conference on rural tourism organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in collaboration with the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) and the People's Committee of Quang Nam province on December 10, 2024 is the first global event of UN Tourism on rural tourism. The conference will have the participation and speech of Government leaders.
The conference is expected to attract the participation of about 300 delegates (including over 100 international delegates) from national and local management agencies of UN Tourism member countries and Vietnam, international organizations, the tourism community and the private sector.
The conference will discuss and orient policies for sustainable rural tourism development, ensuring equitable distribution of tourism benefits, job creation, protection of natural and cultural resources, social inclusion, empowerment of local communities and vulnerable groups, including women, youth and indigenous people.
Three main topics were discussed at the conference: National and local policies to promote rural tourism development; Attracting participation and empowering local communities in tourism development; Developing tourism products, promoting innovation and facilitating market access for rural destinations.
The United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) is a specialized agency of the United Nations, with a vision of developing tourism as a driver of economic growth, comprehensive development and ensuring environmental sustainability. Currently, UN Tourism has 160 official members and more than 500 associate members. Vietnam Tourism has become an official member since 1981, belonging to the East Asia - Pacific Commission.
Some other main activities held from December 9 to 11 within the framework of the event include: The second annual meeting of the UN Tourism Best Villages Network; Space for introducing culture and tourism; Program to visit and survey typical rural and cultural tourism destinations in Quang Nam province.
