Innovate working methods

On the morning of December 17th, the first Congress of the An Giang Provincial Farmers' Association, for the 2025-2030 term, held its solemn session with the participation of 300 outstanding delegates, representing over 270,000 farmers and association members throughout the province. The Congress marks an important milestone, opening a new phase of development for the Association as An Giang enters the digital age, the green economy , and deep integration.

In his opening remarks at the Congress, Mr. Nguyen Van Cop, Chairman of the An Giang Provincial Farmers' Association, emphasized that during the past term, the Association at all levels has continuously innovated the content and methods of its activities. Patriotic emulation movements among farmers have continued to spread widely, bringing practical results and making a positive contribution to the socio-economic development and sustainable poverty reduction of the province.

Political and ideological propaganda and education work has been promptly implemented at the grassroots level. Consulting, service, and vocational training support activities, as well as the development of cooperative economic models, have been intensified, contributing to the restructuring of the agricultural economy, job creation, and improved income and living standards for farmers. The legitimate rights and interests of members are increasingly being given more attention and better protected.

Besides the achievements, the Congress also frankly acknowledged the limitations such as: the failure to promptly understand the thoughts and aspirations of members in some areas; the capacity of some Association officials not meeting new requirements; the uneven development of the farmers' movement; and the limited effectiveness of social supervision and criticism.

Based on that, the 2025-2030 term is identified as a pivotal period, requiring the Association to innovate even more strongly, shifting from "mobilization" to "support - service - companionship," placing farmers at the center and as the subjects of agricultural development, rural economy, and the construction of new rural areas.

The Congress announced the decision of the Central Executive Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Association appointing the first term Executive Committee of the An Giang Provincial Farmers' Association, consisting of 53 members, with a Standing Committee of 13 members. Mr. Nguyen Van Cop was re-elected as Chairman of the An Giang Provincial Farmers' Association for the new term, and the two Vice-Chairmen are Mr. Lam Quoc Toan and Mr. Phan Tung Lam.

Together in the digital age

In his address to the Congress, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Association, Luong Quoc Doan, acknowledged and praised the outstanding achievements of the An Giang Provincial Farmers' Association during the past term. He also pointed out the challenges facing agriculture, farmers, and rural areas today. These include the difficult living conditions of a segment of farmers, especially in remote and border areas; small-scale production; and weak linkages in value chains. The application of science and technology in production and digital transformation remains limited.

During the 2025-2030 term, the Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Association proposed that the An Giang Provincial Farmers' Association continue to innovate its thinking and operating methods towards professionalism. It should focus on supporting farmers in digital transformation in agricultural production, management, and consumption. It should also develop green rural economic models, circular agriculture, and digital agriculture linked to value chains.

Sharing the same view, An Giang Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Tien Hai affirmed that, in the context of the country entering the era of green economy, circular economy and deep international integration, An Giang farmers must be the main actors and the center of the process of sustainable and modern agricultural development.

The Provincial Party Secretary requested that all levels of the Association quickly adapt to the new organizational model and tasks, closely following the leadership of the Party Committee and the higher-level Association. They should effectively implement major resolutions of the Central Committee on agriculture, farmers, rural areas, science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation. The focus should be on promoting agricultural restructuring linked to the market, building brands, and developing cooperative economics and cooperatives. They should also promote the application of high technology, organic farming, circular economy, and the development of high-quality OCOP products for domestic consumption and export.

In this new phase, the An Giang Farmers' Association needs to truly become a "facilitator" for farmers in starting businesses, linking production and consumption of agricultural products, building brands, traceability, and e-commerce. Emphasis should be placed on training Association officials who understand farmers, the market, technology, and digital transformation.
