On May 29, the National Agricultural Extension Center coordinated with the Department of Science, Technology and Environment and the Silviculture Research Institute, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) to organize a workshop on "Introducing technical advances in the forestry sector" for application in production.

Attending the event were comrades: Hoang Van Hong, Deputy Director of the National Agricultural Extension Center; Hoang Van Thang, Director of the Institute of Silviculture Research; leaders of the Department of Science and Technology; Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Cao Bang and Quang Ninh; more than 150 delegates who are leaders and experts of the Department of Science, Technology and Environment, Department of Forestry; some typical farmers of the provinces: Cao Bang, Thai Nguyen, Lao Cai, Lai Chau, Hoa Binh, Lang Son, Quang Ninh, Bac Giang .

Delegates attending the workshop.

As of December 2022, the forest area of our country reached more than 14 million 860 thousand hectares, the forest coverage rate reached more than 42% of the country's area. The growth rate of the forestry industry's value reached an average of over 5%/year. The average output of concentrated planted forest timber exploitation in the period of 2021 - 2023 reached 20 million m3 /year; in the period of 2021 - 2023, the whole country collected 6,856 billion VND in forest environmental service fees.

Vietnam's export turnover of wood and wood products reached 15.7 billion USD. Vietnam has exported wood and wood products to over 140 countries and territories in the world and has become the 5th country in the world, second in Asia and first in Southeast Asia in terms of export turnover of wood and wood products. Achieving the above results is thanks to the correct policies of the Party and Government on forestry development; in which, the lever for forestry development is the development of scientific research and the transfer and application of science and technology in production and afforestation.

In the period of 2021 - 2023, the Forestry Department appraised and recognized 24 technical advances in the forestry sector under its authority. Of these, there are 16 technical advances in varieties; 2 technical advances in forest nurturing; 6 technical advances in processing and forest industry. In recent years, the agricultural extension system has built and replicated many typical forestry models, helping farmers master science and technology.

Forestry extension models have been successfully implemented in localities across the country, helping people in mountainous provinces boldly produce and do business on forest land in an intensive manner, creating stable jobs, increasing income, contributing to hunger eradication and poverty reduction; improving productivity and quality of planted forests, and developing sustainable forests.

The National Agricultural Extension Center has implemented 18 forestry extension projects. Of which, the Northern Midlands and Mountains region has implemented 9 projects, typically the projects: "Building a model for growing medicinal plants associated with product consumption in some northern provinces"; "Building a model for intensive large-wood forest planting using recognized tissue-hybrid eucalyptus varieties"; A model for intensive planting of seed-eating giổi with grafted trees under the project "Building a model for intensive planting of seed-eating giổi with grafted trees"; "Building a model for planting some non-timber forest products associated with product consumption"... with high efficiency.

At the workshop, delegates discussed the following contents: Introducing some varieties and technical advances in forestry suitable for forestry development in the Northern Midlands and Mountains; some newly recognized advances in silviculture suitable for forestry production development in the Northern Midlands and Mountains; forest protection and forestry production development; results of implementing Central agricultural extension projects of the Institute of Silviculture Research in the period 2014 - 2024; work on building some forestry extension models; current situation, orientation and solutions for implementing high-quality seedlings in building a model of intensive large-wood afforestation... At the same time, discussing and analyzing the current situation, potential, difficulties, opportunities and challenges for the forestry sector.

The workshop contributes to introducing, transferring and applying scientific and technical advances in the forestry sector, aiming to develop a highly effective and sustainable forest economy.
