On May 26, at the headquarters of the French Senate in Paris, a workshop on the East Sea was held, chaired by the Institute for Applied Geopolitical Studies (EGA). The workshop attracted the participation of more than 120 people, including a number of senators, experts from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of the Interior , experts in international relations, military strategy, defense policy and postgraduate students. There were 14 speakers who were scholars, professors, lawyers, and journalists in France and Europe. In the opening speech, EGA President Alexandre Negrus said that the main reason for the institute to organize the workshop was because the East Sea is an area that always has potential risks. He emphasized that the disputes and tensions in the East Sea are one of the complex issues that can easily explode into a hot spot in the world today. Therefore, countries, including France, also need to fully understand the role and importance of the region and the risks and challenges that are posing. The workshop does not have the ambition to solve the problem, but through it, it wants to provide more information on international law, especially UNCLOS 1982, contributing to reducing the risk of tension. With the theme "East Sea: A multidimensional space facing global challenges", the workshop mentioned 4 specific aspects including: Indo-Pacific space in the light of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) 1982; East Sea - The center of security issues; Indo-Pacific region: Climate change is also a crisis factor; A diverse regional political stage and the role of France.

The opinions presented at the workshop provided updated, objective information, warning international public opinion about possible negative developments in the East Sea. At the same time, the speakers also emphasized the importance of ensuring peace , stability, security and freedom of navigation in the East Sea region, the need to respect and implement UNCLOS 1982, and the commitments of countries in the region such as the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) in 2002.

The opinions also called on France, the European Union (EU) and the world to promote their roles in resolving disagreements and disputes in the region on the basis of international law, respecting UNCLOS 1982 and expanding cooperation frameworks in all fields for the region.

Climate change, a notable new topic at the conference, was also identified as a crisis factor, especially in the context of French society being very concerned about this regional and global issue.
