Beauty care skills competition: Upgrading professional skills, stepping into the future

In recent years, the beauty care industry has become a strongly developing career trend in modern society.

With the rapid growth of beauty needs, the beauty care profession not only brings stable income to workers but also contributes to economic growth, creating many job opportunities.

Vu Nguyen Bio Company Limited (Buon Ma Thuot City) is one of the units training workers in the beauty care profession in the province and neighboring provinces. Along with teaching theory and practice, the Company recently organized a beauty care skills competition so that those who love and are passionate about the profession have a "playground" to practice their skills, affirm their talents, thereby having more opportunities to develop in the profession.

The jury of the contest noted the contestants before the practical exam.

The contest attracted 23 contestants who are makeup artists, hairdressers, skin care workers... from Dak Lak province to participate in two parts. In the theoretical part, it includes basic knowledge of skin care, makeup, nails, massage; regulations on medical safety and hygiene in the profession; especially legal knowledge related to cosmetic services according to Decree 155/2018/ND-CP, Law on Medical Examination and Treatment 2023.

In the practical part, candidates demonstrate their skills through the following contents: basic facial care, natural/event makeup, nail art, facial/full body massage and hair styling design according to standards.

H'Yuin Ênuôl ( Cử Êbur commune, Buôn Ma Thuột city) is a bridal makeup artist with nearly 3 years of experience. She shared: "Although I have completed the elementary makeup course, this competition is an opportunity for me to test my skills, creativity and learn new techniques from my colleagues."

As for Mr. Tran Minh Quang (Quang Hair Salon, Buon Ma Thuot City), he has participated in many hair styling competitions in Ho Chi Minh City, but this is the first time he has tried his hand at the Skills Competition in Buon Ma Thuot City with more comprehensive content. "Previous competitions often focused on hair styling creation, but in this competition, through   The theoretical exam on medical safety and the law on beauty salons helped me see my profession differently. Beauty is not only about beauty but also about safety,” said Mr. Quang.

At the end of the Beauty Care Skills Competition, the Jury awarded 5 First Prizes (5 million VND/prize); 4 Second Prizes (3 million VND/prize) and 5 Third Prizes (1.5 million VND/prize) to students in the following categories: skin care, makeup, nails, massage, hairdressing with courses at Vu Nguyen Bio Company Limited.

The contest is not only a playground but also a place for creativity, helping makeup artists, hairdressers, nail artists, skin care professionals... practice, improve their skills and learn new techniques. The contest also contributes to affirming the role of vocational education in training quality human resources for the beauty industry.

“Through the competition, we want to provide candidates with opportunities for comprehensive development and access to national and international professional standards. This is also a way to raise social awareness of the role of vocational education, creating a solid bridge between vocational training and the labor market,” emphasized Ms. Nguyen Thi Y Nga, Director of Vu Nguyen Bio Company Limited, the organizer.

In today's society, the standard of living is increasing, people not only care about health but also pay attention to appearance to enhance self-confidence, improve social relationships and even grasp better career opportunities. Obviously, the beauty industry is growing strongly but facing challenges in human resource quality and professionalism, so standardizing training, especially organizing vocational competitions, becomes urgent.

Ms. Tran Thi Lan, Head of the Beauty Care Department, Hanoi College of Technology (Hanoi City), Head of the Contest Jury, said: “The beauty industry is currently developing rapidly but has not received due attention in formal training. The lack of standardized skills and a clear legal framework makes it easy for workers to be left out and have difficulty accessing quality job opportunities.” Therefore, promoting a formal vocational training model, practical practice and linking with national vocational skills standards is the solution to the problem of quality human resources.

Vu Nguyen Bio Company Limited was established in 2023, currently has 3 branches in Buon Ma Thuot City, Gia Nghia City (Dak Nong Province) and Tuy Hoa City (Phu Yen Province). Every year, the company organizes about 50 beauty care training classes for more than 500 students.   This is the first beauty care skills competition organized by the unit. After receiving evaluations from specialized training units, the unit reported to the Department of Education and Training with the desire to find a direction.   new for the workforce of the beauty care industry through the Vocational Skills Competition; at the same time, to give them the opportunity to aim for larger competitions such as: National Vocational Skills, ASEAN Vocational Skills...
