On the afternoon of February 9, the Ministry of Public Security reported that on the second day of the Lunar New Year holiday, there were 71 traffic accidents nationwide, killing 30 people and injuring 55. Thus, including the two days off, more than 60 people died in traffic accidents nationwide (on February 8, 33 people died in traffic accidents).
On February 9, the national traffic police force inspected and handled 8,640 traffic violations, temporarily detained more than 4,000 vehicles of all kinds. Thereby, they imposed fines of more than 21 billion VND; temporarily detained 4,153 vehicles of all kinds (including 154 cars, 3,983 motorbikes and 16 other vehicles); revoked 2,044 driving licenses of all kinds.
Traffic accidents mostly occur on roads; there are no traffic accidents on railways, waterways, airways, or sea routes.
For alcohol violations alone, the traffic police handled 3,428 cases, 1,910 speeding cases, and 17 drug cases. No violations were detected on railways or waterways.
Through the hotline, the authorities received 2 calls and messages from people reporting to the hotline of the National Traffic Safety Committee. The calls were forwarded to the authorities for verification and timely handling.
On the last day of the year, traffic in Hanoi capital is clear, vehicles move conveniently both within the city and at the gateways.
According to the peak plan to ensure traffic order, safety, and social order on traffic routes during the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin and the Spring festivals of 2024 of the Ministry of Public Security, the traffic police force coordinates with other forces in the people's public security to concentrate forces, means, and technical equipment to implement the peak with the goal of promptly preventing, detecting, stopping, and handling violations that are the direct causes of traffic accidents, especially particularly serious traffic accidents.
In the road sector, the national traffic police force will focus on controlling and handling violations: driving with alcohol or drugs in the body; speeding; driving in the wrong lane; avoiding, overtaking, stopping, and parking in violation of regulations; vehicles with "extended" cargo beds, carrying overloaded or oversized goods; carrying more people than the prescribed number; picking up and dropping off passengers at the wrong place...
Focus on inspecting and handling vehicles used for transporting goods and passengers on highways, national highways, provincial roads, district roads, urban roads, and rural roads.
Particularly, on National Highway 1A, inter-route patrols, control and violation handling are directly directed, urged and inspected by the Traffic Police Department.
