Koh Nom Sao Island has a round hill covered with green trees, next to a strip of fine white sand, making many people think of the image of "women's breasts".
The island has long attracted many single women to pray for love. Those who come here often bring red or pink bras, colors that symbolize luck in love.
They write their names and wishes on the shirt, then hang it on a tree or leave it on an altar.
According to SCMP , the origin of the bra offering ceremony on Ko Nom Sao island comes from a tragic legend about Yomdoy - a beautiful young woman who was thrown into the sea by her father after she refused to marry the man her family arranged.
According to legend, Yomdoy's two breasts later turned into two sacred hills. One is on Koh Nom Sao island and the other is in Chanthaburi province, eastern Thailand.
About 80 years ago, a fisherman seeking shelter from a storm reported seeing a mysterious light coming from the island, which many believed was the spirit of the goddess Yomdoy.
Mr. Sumate Charoensuk, representative of the Social Responsibility Committee of Sam Roi Yot sub-district, said that the local community has long had deep faith in the “miracles” created by the guardian goddess of Koh Nom Sao island.
"The bras will be collected, sorted and donated to disadvantaged women's groups on the island," Mr. Sumate affirmed, while encouraging more domestic and foreign tourists to visit Koh Nom Sao.
In addition to the spiritual element, in terms of tourism , Koh Nom Sao also attracts visitors with its pristine beaches, clear blue water and the most beautiful coral reefs in the region.
Many travel companies have combined island tours with diving and fishing activities to diversify the experience for visitors.
