Several Crystal Palace fans were assaulted ahead of the Conference League final. |
The Conference League final between Crystal Palace and Rayo Vallecano was overshadowed by serious clashes in the heart of Leipzig, Germany. Videos circulating on social media showed scenes of chaos with bottles and furniture flying through the streets in a "battle" between unruly groups.
The incident erupted outside an Irish pub where thousands of "The Eagles" fans were gathered. A group of thugs dressed in black suddenly attacked the crowd, leading to a violent brawl.
Images from the scene captured a landscape of devastation with debris scattered across the square, while many locals panicked and fled, creating an extremely chaotic situation.
German riot police were immediately deployed, rushing between the two groups of fans to establish a cordon. Authorities confirmed that dozens of individuals were detained for disturbing public order.
It remains unclear whether the attackers were Rayo Vallecano fans or local hooligan groups, but there have been no reports of serious casualties.
Despite security concerns, the fanzone at Wilhelm-Leuschner-Platz continues to attract large crowds. Leipzig police have confirmed they will maintain the highest alert level to ensure the safety of the final match, which will take place early tomorrow morning (Vietnam time).
Both Crystal Palace and Rayo Vallecano are looking for their first major European trophy, with the winner securing a place in next season's Europa League.
