Within the framework of the International Law Week at the Legal Committee (Committee 6) of the United Nations General Assembly, on October 22, the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, in coordination with the Delegations of several countries including the Philippines, Australia, Egypt, Guatemala, Hungary, Thailand, France, Eritrea and Austria, organized an event to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the establishment of the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) in New York (USA). Speakers and delegates all agreed that the PCA plays an important role in peacefully resolving international disputes, promoting the rule of law and contributing to maintaining peace and stability. In addition, speakers shared experiences and practices of countries and regions in cooperating with the Permanent Court of Arbitration. According to Permanent Court of Arbitration Secretary General Marcin Czepelak, the Permanent Court of Arbitration, the oldest international organization in the field of international dispute resolution, has not only continued to exist for more than a century since its establishment in 1899, but has also grown thanks to the two Conventions establishing the Permanent Court of Arbitration that allow it to flexibly adapt to the changes of the times. At the same time, the Permanent Court of Arbitration provides support for diverse dispute resolution methods such as conciliation, mediation, commission of inquiry, and fact-finding in addition to arbitration, thus helping the Court gradually develop into a modern, diverse arbitration institution, fully suited to meet the new dispute resolution needs of the international community. Speaking at the event commemorating the 125th anniversary of the establishment of the Permanent Court of Arbitration, Ambassador Nguyen Minh Vu, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, Head of the Vietnamese delegation attending the meeting at Committee 6, said that the increasingly good and close cooperation between Vietnam and the Permanent Court of Arbitration can be a model for other countries to refer to, and at the same time shared some practical and effective cooperation activities between Vietnam and the Permanent Court of Arbitration.

These activities not only promote the peaceful resolution of international disputes in the region, but also create conditions for capacity building for Vietnamese legal officials and experts, and towards legal officials and experts in the region. Regarding the enhancement of the role of the Permanent Court of Arbitration in resolving disputes in the Asia-Pacific region, Ambassador Nguyen Minh Vu commented that this region is increasingly important in many aspects of geopolitics , trade-economics and security, so it is extremely necessary for the Permanent Court of Arbitration to strengthen its role and contribute to the region. The Court of Arbitration can increase investment in its Representative Offices in the Asia-Pacific region, including the Representative Office in Hanoi, and actively organize more activities to promote and diversify cooperation with countries in the region, especially in enhancing the capacity of legal officials and experts. The Permanent Court of Arbitration was established under the 1899 Convention on the Peaceful Settlement of International Disputes and the 1907 Convention on the Peaceful Settlement of International Disputes. The main task of the Permanent Court of Arbitration is to facilitate the settlement of international disputes between states and between states and foreign legal entities in many fields.
