In the final match of the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 tournament, U23 Vietnam won 1-0 against the host team U23 Indonesia, goalkeeper Tran Trung Kien was assessed by coaches and football experts as playing excellently, the most outstanding match. As commented by coach Hoang Anh Tuan - who led U23 Vietnam to win the tournament in 2023 - shared with Tri Thuc - Znews : "Trung Kien deserves to be praised for completing his task excellently. He always shows himself to be a good support for the whole team at key moments".
After returning to Vietnam on the afternoon of July 30, goalkeeper Tran Trung Kien revealed that he was confident in the face of pressure from the home team because the team had prepared very carefully, and that his height of 1.91 meters helped him play more confidently.
“U23 Vietnam carefully studied and analyzed U23 Indonesia’s playing style and the coaching staff came up with countermeasures for the whole team. In particular, I had to be more proactive in entering and exiting, in addition to the task of commanding the defense, reminding my teammates to be more proactive,” he said.
In response to fans’ concerns about his height of 1.91 meters, the goalkeeper of HAGL Club shared that this is his advantage, and also thanks to the collective spirit that has added confidence. “I am not afraid of high ball situations. Not only me but all my teammates play very confidently and courageously under the great pressure created by tens of thousands of Indonesian fans,” Kien said.
Goalkeeper Tran Trung Kien, born in 2003, quickly stood out in the HAGL club squad with his outstanding height when he debuted in 2018. He was an "excellent goalkeeper" at the 2023 National U21 Championship and was part of the Vietnamese team that won the 2024 ASEAN Cup.
