Hue launches tourist destination to reduce plastic waste Thuy Bieu

The first plastic waste-reducing tourist destination in Thua Thien Hue was introduced by the Thua Thien - Hue Tourism Association in collaboration with the project "Hue - a plastic-reducing city in Central Vietnam" in Thuy Bieu on November 27.

Vice President of Thua Thien - Hue Tourism Association Nguyen Hoang Thuy Vy said that Thuy Bieu is a pioneering community tourism destination of Hue city, the first result of a series of cooperation activities between the Association and the Project " Hue - Plastic-reducing city in Central Vietnam".

Since August, establishments in Thuy Bieu ward participating in the plastic reduction model have unanimously implemented many activities that have brought efficiency to the local tourism industry, changing environmental protection habits among residents and tourists.

Hopefully in the coming time, this will be a unique green destination for Thua Thien - Hue in particular, Vietnam in general and be the driving force to form more green tourism destinations in the locality.

Currently, 16 community facilities are participating in the model and implementing solutions to reduce plastic at the Thuy Bieu plastic waste reduction tourist destination. Accordingly, the facilities encourage visitors to bring personal items or provide environmentally friendly water bottles and raincoats for visitors when participating in cycling experiences throughout the journey. The items are collected at the end of the trip.

For the tour program with cooking class experience, bags and food containers are arranged so that visitors can go to the market without using plastic bags. Rooms are arranged with refillable glass water bottles; limit, replace shampoo bags with dispensers…

On the experience journey in Thuy Bieu ward, there will be 5 free water refilling points along with a system of classified trash bins and green houses to help visitors conveniently classify recyclable waste according to regulations.

Project Manager "Hue - Plastic-reducing city in Central Vietnam" Hoang Ngoc Tuong Van said that the Project, together with the Department of Tourism and the Tourism Association of Thua Thien - Hue province, has developed a plastic reduction roadmap for the tourism industry in Hue city. Thereby, designing a number of destinations and tours without plastic waste. Thuy Bieu is one of the locations the Project aims to support this year.

With the goal of supporting Hue city to build a sustainable green tourism industry, the Project will continue to accompany the formation of more plastic waste-free destinations, contributing to reducing 30% of plastic waste into the environment./.
