Recently, 33 households in Kdung village and 17 households in Kret Krot village (Hra commune, Mang Yang district) have focused on planting hybrid acacia trees on the barren land in sub-area 487B managed by the commune People's Committee. The entire 152 thousand seedlings for people to plant forests were supported by the Hra commune police calling on Tue Ai Company Limited (Tan Dong Hiep ward, Di An city, Binh Duong province).
Mr. Khan (Kdung village) said: “My family has 1 hectare of land that has been growing cassava for many years, so it has become infertile and has low productivity. Recently, with the support of the Commune Police, I have converted this entire area to forest planting. I was instructed on planting and care techniques by local forest rangers, so the trees have grown and developed well.”
Mr. Yang, Head of Kdung Village, said: “The Commune Police have supported seedlings to plant on barren, barren land, so the people are very excited. My family has also been supported with 2,000 acacia trees to plant in the fields and barren land. In addition to greening barren hills, I hope that hybrid acacia will bring high economic efficiency in the coming years.”
Major Nguyen Huu Anh - Head of Hra Commune Police - informed: Implementing the plan of the District Police Party Committee on mass mobilization work, in 2 years (2023-2024), the Commune Police have called on businesses to join hands to support seedlings for people to plant forests to green bare hills.
Accordingly, in 2023, the unit supported 200 three-leaf pine trees planted along the roads and 20,000 hybrid acacia trees for people to plant forests. In 2024, the unit called on Tue Ai Company Limited to support 152,000 hybrid acacia trees for people in Kdung and Kret Krot villages to plant on poor, infertile land. Most of the acacia areas are well cared for by the people, with a survival rate of over 90%.
In recent years, many businesses and volunteer groups have supported seedlings for people to plant in scattered areas. Typically, AgriS Gia Lai Agricultural Joint Stock Company supported 55 thousand trees for localities in the raw material area to plant in scattered areas, contributing to increasing forest cover.
Mobilizing resources for afforestation
In recent years, along with State investment resources, many localities have mobilized legal resources to support scattered tree planting and afforestation to cover bare hills. Notably, in 2024, the Vietnam Forest Protection and Development Fund transferred 57 billion VND to Gia Lai province to plant replacement forests on an area of 430 hectares. This is a significant resource for protective forest management boards to afforest bare hills.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hung - Head of Mang Yang Protective Forest Management Board - said: In 2024, the unit was assigned to plant 60 hectares of replacement forest. To date, the unit has completed 100% of the plan.
“The capital for reforestation not only helps the unit to reforest bare hills but also creates jobs for ethnic minorities living locally, contributing to raising people’s sense of responsibility in forest management, protection and development. Not only reforestation, every year, the unit also proactively supports seedlings for communes and towns in the district to plant trees along roads, bare hills, schools, etc.
In 2024 alone, the unit supported 4,000 pine trees for communes and towns to plant in a scattered manner. This is a very practical work that contributes to increasing the forest cover rate in the district in the coming years," Mr. Hung shared.
Mr. Duong Hoang Nguyen, Deputy Head of the Provincial Forest Protection Department, said: Based on the registration plan of localities and forest owners, in 2024, the whole province plans to plant 10,313 hectares of forest. To complete the assigned plan, the Department regularly urges and reminds localities and forest owners to update information, allocate plans for planting forests and scattered trees to ensure the set progress.
Through monitoring, most localities have developed plans and mobilized people to declare agricultural production areas on forestry land, converting from agricultural crops to forestry crops... At the same time, localities have arranged budgets, mobilized maximum social resources, and combined with many other action programs to plant forests.
However, the process of afforestation still faces many difficulties such as: most ethnic minority households have the habit of slash-and-burn cultivation, often staying, so it is difficult to meet and exchange information; many types of trees are not suitable for soil conditions in some localities and forest owners. In particular, the current afforestation areas are fragmented, small, and located in steep hills... Therefore, localities in the province have only been able to plant nearly 9,206 hectares of forest.
“In the coming time, the Department will continue to closely coordinate with localities to remove difficulties and obstacles to effectively implement the work of planting forests to green bare hills. Mobilize socialized capital, other legal contributions from enterprises and sponsorship from organizations and individuals to participate in planting forests and scattered trees.
In particular, review the planning of existing processing facilities, encourage investment in wood and non-timber forest product processing factories associated with the construction of raw material areas" - Deputy Head of the Provincial Forest Protection Department added.
