Handling large container volume, Hai Phong port ranks 30th globally

With 7.1 million TEUs handled, Hai Phong seaport ranks 30th in the world and 2nd in Vietnam in terms of container throughput in 2024.

The information was published in DynaLiners Millionaires ranking of the seaports handling the largest container volume in 2024. The ranking includes 157 seaports worldwide with a cargo volume of 1 million TEU.

Hai Phong seaport ranked 30th in the world with a handling volume of 7.1 million TEUs in 2024. Along with Hai Phong seaport, Ho Chi Minh City seaport (handling volume of 9.1 million TEUs) and Cai Mep - Thi Vai port cluster (7 million TEUs) entered the above list with positions 22nd and 31st respectively.

With the achievements of the above 3 seaports, Vietnam ranks 6th in the list of countries with seaports handling large volumes of container cargo. The total volume handled by the 3 ports in the year reached more than 23.2 million TEUs, a growth of 16% compared to 2023.

Topping the ranking list is Chinese seaports, handling more than 300 million TEUs, up 8% compared to 2023. Chinese seaports have handled 88% of global container volume with about 30 major ports such as Shanghai, Ningbo, Shenzhen, Qingdao, Guangzhou...

The US seaport ranked second with 55.5 million TEUs, thanks to the contribution of output from major seaports such as Long Beach, Los Angeles, New York, Savannah, Virginia. The volume of goods through US seaports increased by 11% compared to 2023. The next positions belonged to Singapore (41.1 million TEUs), South Korea (30 million TEUs), Malaysia (29.4 million TEUs).

Many of the world's leading shipping lines cooperate to exploit maritime service routes from Hai Phong seaport.

In recent years, Hai Phong seaport area has always maintained a high growth rate, from 12 - 15%/year. In the first 7 months of 2025 alone, the volume of goods passing through the city's seaport area reached 65.5 million tons.

Particularly at the ports of Lach Huyen port area, the cargo throughput reached 1.2 million TEUs, an increase of 34% over the same period in 2024. It is expected that in 2025, the cargo throughput in this area will reach 2.2 million TEUs.

It is known that in 2025, Hai Phong seaport aims to handle 112 million tons of goods.
