This is an important step in the Korean group's electrification strategy, and opens a new direction for hybrid vehicles under the Hyundai i, Kia and Genesis brands from 2026. Different from the traditional hybrid structure, the new system developed by Hyundai uses two integrated electric motors.

One motor is responsible for starting, generating power and supporting the transmission, while the other focuses on main power transmission and regenerative braking. This configuration allows for more flexible power distribution, while significantly improving handling and smoothness when shifting gears.

Hyundai says the new powertrain also helps reduce vibration and noise entering the cabin, improving the user experience. One of the notable features of the new hybrid powertrain is the ability to combine with a variety of gasoline engines, with power ranging from 100 to 300 horsepower.

The most notable of these are the 1.6L turbocharged and 2.5L turbocharged engines, both of which have been tweaked to optimize electrification capabilities. Specifically, the 2.5L hybrid version equipped on the new 2026 Hyundai Palisade can reach a capacity of up to 329 horsepower and 460 Nm of torque, an increase of 19% and 9% respectively compared to the conventional gasoline engine version.

Fuel efficiency is improved by 45%, but specific consumption details have not been disclosed yet. Meanwhile, the 1.6L hybrid engine will appear first in an unannounced mid-size SUV, promising 4% better fuel economy and an additional 13 Nm of torque, helping to improve acceleration.

The new hybrid powertrain for the Hyundai Palisade also supports the ability to use the battery to power amenities such as air conditioning or entertainment systems. This allows passengers to rest or use the car as a living space without starting the engine, while reducing emissions during use.

Along with hybrid technology, Hyundai also introduced a completely new e-AWD drive system. This system is equipped with an electric motor at the rear axle, supporting power transmission to all 4 wheels and improving control in slippery road conditions or complex terrain.

Hyundai Motor Group said that the next-generation hybrid powertrain and e-AWD will be widely applied from 2026, first on Hyundai vehicles, then Kia and Genesis.
