Apple has just unexpectedly adjusted the prices of a series of iPhones in Vietnam, creating a rare "sale hunt" in the middle of the year.

iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 are deeply discounted by 2.5-3 million VND. iPhone 13 is down to more than 11 million VND for the first time for a new genuine device.

Even Apple's latest iPhone models, the iPhone 16e, have been discounted.

So is Apple reducing the price due to poor sales, and is this price good enough to buy or should we wait for the iPhone 17 series to launch in September and then buy?

Apple price reduction: Unsold or familiar stimulus?

Many people ask: "Does Apple have to reduce prices so much?"

Actually, this is not uncommon. The first quarter is usually a low point for the phone market, after the peak of the year-end shopping season and the Lunar New Year. Companies all need to stimulate demand in the second quarter, especially this May. Apple is no exception.

This year, due to economic and political fluctuations, consumers are more cautious in shopping, making the situation worse.

According to the latest report, in the first quarter, global smartphone sales growth was only 0.2% - a very modest level. Therefore, reducing prices to increase demand is an understandable move.

In addition, as usual every year, the time when new iPhone models have been released for more than half a year is also the right time to reduce prices. Because the first buyers will feel "ripped off", and those who need to buy will have easier access to the new price.

In short, this is the right time for Apple and dealers to adjust prices, in order to "close deals" with users who are hesitant because of the high price at launch.

Should we buy the bottom at the present time?

Currently, the iPhone 16 Pro Max - Apple's most premium flagship - has dropped to below 30 million VND at some major dealers. The regular iPhone 16 is only about 18 million VND. With such a sharp reduction, many people wonder if the price will drop further, especially when the iPhone 17 is expected to launch next September?

In my opinion, this is almost the deepest discount of the year for the iPhone 14, 15 and even 16 series.

Unless you wait until the "Back to School" season in August, which is mainly aimed at students.

Even when the iPhone 17 series is released, the current models will not be discounted much more, partly because the old iPhone Pro series will be discontinued, and partly because the price has already dropped so it will be difficult to reduce it much more. By that time, we have to wait 5 months, so buying at this time is both a good price and early use.

So if you are in need of changing your phone, I think this will be the best time of the year to buy an iPhone, when balancing the factors. You can save a few million VND, and you can use it early, without having to wait another 4-5 months.

iPhone price drops sharply but there are still many competitors worth considering

Besides the iPhone, the Android market in May is also bustling. Samsung has just introduced the Galaxy S25 Edge - a super-thin flagship measuring only 5.8mm, integrated with AI to support image processing, battery optimization, and real-time language translation. This is clearly a formidable competitor to the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

In the mid-range segment, names like Galaxy A56 or Redmi Note 13 Pro are also noteworthy with strong configuration, stable camera, and more accessible price.

Compared to the 3-year-old iPhone 13, this is a reasonable choice if you don't necessarily need to stay in the Apple ecosystem.

Not to mention this year Chinese phones like Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo are also equipped with Silicon - Carbon batteries for good usage time and very diverse AI support. Meanwhile, iPhones in Vietnam still do not support Apple Intelligence in Vietnamese.

However, the strengths of Apple products are still the ability to record beautiful videos and a good ecosystem, a synchronized user experience with MacBook and AirPods products. So if you are familiar with Apple products, it is difficult to switch to Android products.

Conclusion: Buy iPhone or wait?

- If you are using an old phone and want to upgrade soon, now is the golden time to buy.

- If you need a phone that records beautiful videos, runs smoothly, and connects well with MacBook, iPad, Apple Watch - iPhone is still number 1.

- But if you love new technology, want to tinker with AI, have a huge battery, and don't mind switching operating systems - try this year's Android flagships, you'll be surprised.
