"The US submarine approached our submarine while it was submerged. However, the Iranian submarine Fateh detected it and pressured the US submarine to surface in the Strait of Hormuz," Iranian Navy Commander Shahram Irani said in an interview on April 20.
Iran's Navy Commander also accused the US submarine of violating the country's territorial waters.
"This submarine did everything possible, using all its capabilities to penetrate our waters silently so as not to be detected. We will definitely report this to the competent international organizations," Irani added.
The US Navy has not commented on the information. However, last month, the US deployed the nuclear-powered guided-missile submarine USS Florida to the Middle East to support the operations of the 5th Fleet.
The Strait of Hormuz, located between the Gulf of Oman and the Persian Gulf, is considered the "throat" of world oil because up to 40% of global oil is transported through this route.
On April 19, the US Navy confirmed that it had dispatched the L3 Harris Arabian Fox MAST-13 unmanned combat ship to cross the strait with the escort of two coast guard ships USCGC Charles Moulthrope and USCGC John Scheuerman.
The passage of the L3 Harris Arabian Fox MAST-13 unmanned ship through the Strait of Hormuz is considered a testament to the application of modern technology to the US Navy's operations in the Middle East. In addition, the unmanned ship can also become an important factor in the US Navy's formation participating in patrolling and ensuring safety for the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
