Iran calls on Muslim countries to consider Israeli army as 'terrorist'

VnExpressVnExpress11/11/2023

Iran's President called on Muslim countries to impose sanctions on Israel, calling its military a "terrorist organization".

"Muslim governments need to consider the Israeli army, the occupying and oppressive force, as a terrorist organization," Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said on November 11, at a summit of Arab and Muslim countries in the Saudi capital Riyadh.

This is Mr. Raisi's first visit to Riyadh since Saudi Arabia and Iran normalized relations in March. The Iranian president called on Muslim and Arab countries to cut ties with Israel both politically and economically, and impose trade sanctions on Israel, especially in the energy sector.

Iran's leaders also declared their support for Hamas against Israel, calling on countries in the region to increase support for the Palestinian people.

"We have no choice but to resist Israel. We support Hamas because they resist Israel," Raisi argued.

The Iranian president also criticized the US for providing financial and military aid to Israel's "war machine". He said Washington was Israel's "leader and key ally" in the Gaza war.

An emergency summit between members of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) was organized by Saudi Arabia to discuss the war situation in the Gaza Strip.

Israel's campaign has killed more than 11,000 Palestinians, according to figures from the Gaza Strip's health authority. The international community has called for a ceasefire to pave the way for aid efforts to resolve the humanitarian crisis.
