Speaking at a regular press briefing on Monday (May 25), Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Baqaei emphasized that Iran does not seek to impose any fees on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz and stressed the need for accurate terminology.
Mr. Baqaei stated that Iran is not seeking to impose fees, adding that joint efforts between Iran and Oman to build a safe navigation mechanism are a responsible step. He also noted that the incurrence of costs for maritime support services and environmental protection activities is unavoidable.

Responding to a question from the Tasnim news agency about the plans of Britain and France regarding the management of the Strait of Hormuz, Mr. Baqaei affirmed that, apart from Iran and Oman, no other country has a presence in the region.
He affirmed that establishing a maritime security mechanism is the responsibility of Iran and Oman, and stated that the two countries are actively promoting this process. According to Baqaei, individual measures from other parties only complicate the situation, while Tehran is maintaining contact with relevant parties to expedite the implementation of the new maritime mechanism.
Regarding the visit of Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi to Oman, Mr. Baqaei stated that Tehran is well aware that security in the Strait of Hormuz is a matter of particular concern to the international community.
Mr. Baqaei emphasized that Iran, as a coastal state, must balance its national security interests with the concerns of the international community. According to him, the reason Iran and Oman are promoting an effective mechanism to ensure maritime safety is because both believe that the Strait of Hormuz must continue to serve the common interests of the entire world .
