A VNA correspondent in the Middle East quoted a statement on June 1 by Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian saying that the country will complete the procedures to become a permanent member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in early July.
In an interview with IRIB news agency, Mr. Amir-Abdollahian said that after being approved by the Kyrgyzstan Parliament , all founding members of the SCO "gave the green light" for Iran to become an official member of this organization.
The Iranian president is expected to attend the next summit of the SCO Council of Heads of States on July 4, and the review of the country's membership will also be completed at the same time.
In September 2021, the 21st Conference of the Council of Heads of States of the SCO in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, announced the decision to launch the process of admitting Iran to the organization.
By November 2022, the Iranian Parliament had passed the law on Iran's membership in the SCO with an overwhelming majority./.
