According to The Athletic , Isak informed Newcastle of his departure and refused to participate in the 2025 summer tour. He wants to look for new opportunities. On the contrary, "The Magpies" know about Isak's plans and will decide how to proceed.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano added: "Currently, Alexander Isak is still Liverpool's target, despite the team having just signed Hugo Ekitike. However, everything depends on Newcastle."
Isak’s absence from the 4-0 friendly defeat to Celtic on 19 July and the Asian tour was by his own choice. Newcastle are determined to keep Isak on a new contract but are looking for alternatives if he leaves.
Liverpool were initially interested in Isak and were willing to pay £120m to make the deal happen. However, Newcastle insisted that the player was not for sale. In the end, "The Kop" spent £69m to recruit Ekitike. But with Isak's move, Liverpool will not give up. Meanwhile, Al Hilal will try to convince Isak to play football in the Middle East.
Newcastle are said to be willing to sell Isak for around £150m. However, if he stays, manager Eddie Howe will face a major challenge in stabilising Isak's mentality, thereby affecting Newcastle's start to the new season.
Isak is one of Europe's top strikers. Only Mohammed Salah (29 goals) scored more than him (23) in the Premier League last season. Isak joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad in August 2022 for a fee of around £60m and has made 109 appearances for the club.
