Isak accused the club of breaking its promise. |
In a letter on his personal page, the Swedish striker affirmed that trust between him and Newcastle has been lost.
“When promises are broken and trust is lost, relationships cannot continue. I am proud to be recognized by my colleagues, but the truth is that I cannot be at the ceremony tonight. With everything that is going on, I do not feel comfortable appearing," Isak revealed the reason for not attending the awards gala organized by the Professional Footballers' Association in the early morning of August 20 ( Hanoi time), where he was one of 11 names honored in the best squad of the 2024/25 season.
Isak said he had kept quiet all this time to avoid escalating tensions, but that silence allowed the false stories to spread: " I have been silent for too long while others have spoken out. That has led to people believing a false story. Promises have been made and the club has known my position for a long time. It is wrong for the club to act as if this issue has just come up."
In conclusion, the 25-year-old striker affirmed that parting ways was probably the only option: "Change is necessary, for the benefit of everyone, not just me."
This strong statement could be the end of Isak's journey at St James' Park, paving the way for a blockbuster transfer to Liverpool in the summer of 2025. Previously, "The Kop" offered 140 million euros for Isak but was rejected. Currently, the player born in 1999 is isolated from Newcastle's main squad.
