Israel has expanded its attacks on Hamas and Hezbollah, while discussing with US President-elect Donald Trump the threat from Iran.
The Times of Israel on November 7 quoted a statement from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) saying that the force had expanded its ground operation to the city of Beit Lahiya in the northern Gaza Strip. According to the IDF, the Kfir brigade began its operation in the city after receiving intelligence and on-the-spot evidence that Hamas members were operating there.
War escalates
An estimated 3,000 Palestinians live in Beit Lahiya, a city that had a population of more than 89,000 before the war. The IDF said residents were safely evacuated as troops dealt with Hamas. In the nearby city of Jabalia, the IDF said it killed about 50 terrorists. Al Jazeera reported that Israeli airstrikes in Beit Lahiya killed at least six people.
Israeli Prime Minister Calls Trump About 'Iran Threat'
Witnesses quoted by the Palestinian Information Center said many people were alive when they were buried under the rubble, but later died from suffocation and lack of emergency care. In addition, Wafa reported that three people were killed in an Israeli raid in the Nuwairi area west of the Nuseirat refugee camp.
In the southern Gaza Strip, sources said five people were killed in an Israeli drone strike east of Rafah. Israel has not commented on the reports.

In Lebanon, the IDF said its warplanes struck a series of targets in Hezbollah's stronghold south of Beirut, including Hezbollah command centers and other military infrastructure. The IDF said it had ordered an evacuation of the area before the attack, saying Hezbollah positions were located in the middle of residential areas.
According to Reuters, the pre-dawn attacks on November 7 came after Hezbollah claimed to have carried out raids in Israel, including a rocket attack on a military base near Israel's Ben Gurion International Airport. Earlier on November 6, the Lebanese Health Ministry said Israeli raids in the Bekaa Valley and the city of Baalbek killed 40 people.
"The Threat from Iran"
The raids came as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has vowed to continue fighting Hamas and Hezbollah until victory, spoke by phone with Donald Trump. According to Reuters, the two discussed the Iran issue.
"The conversation was warm and cordial. The prime minister congratulated Mr. Trump on his election victory and the two sides agreed to cooperate for Israel's security. They also discussed the threat from Iran," Netanyahu's office said.
Conflict Point: Trump wins, what scenario for Ukraine and Israel?
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said the US election was an opportunity to review the US government's "wrong approach." "We have had bitter experiences with the policies and approaches of previous US administrations," he said.
Incumbent US President Joe Biden has sought to restore the nuclear deal with Iran but has failed to reach a new agreement. Mr Trump has not said whether he will raise the issue again. "What matters to Iran is how we evaluate the actions of the US government," Mr Baghaei added.
Israel buys dozens of F-15IA fighters
The Times of Israel reported on November 7 that the Israeli Defense Ministry has just signed an agreement to purchase a squadron of F-15IA multirole fighters, a variant of the F-15EX model produced by Boeing specifically for Israel. The deal is worth $5.2 billion and includes 25 F-15IAs, with an option to purchase 25 more. The budget for the deal comes from US military aid to Israel.
Under the agreement, the fighters will be delivered in batches of four to six aircraft per year, starting in 2031. The Israeli Defense Ministry said the new fighters will be "equipped with advanced weapons systems, including the integration of advanced Israeli technology."
