Ivanka Trump's only regret about her parents' parenting style
American businesswoman Ivanka Trump (43 years old) is the daughter of US President-elect Donald Trump (78 years old) and businesswoman Ivana Trump (1949-2022). Mr. Donald Trump and Mrs. Ivana Trump were married from 1977 to 1990, they have 3 children together, including a daughter Ivanka, two sons Donald Jr and Eric.
Ivanka recently appeared in an interview to share many things about work and life. Ivanka said she learned a lot from observing how her parents work.
Ivanka misses the times she spent with her mother when she was CEO of The Plaza Hotel, a famous hotel in New York City (USA).
According to Ivanka, Ivana has a keen attention to detail. For example, she can walk quickly past chandeliers without stopping to look closely at any of them, but still be able to recognize exactly which chandelier has a burned-out bulb.
"I always followed my mother every day after school to watch her concentrate on her work. I was very obedient so I was allowed to follow her to watch her work, and the same with my father," said Ivanka.
Watching her parents work has taught Ivanka a lot about herself. But there is one thing she wishes her parents had done for her.

"My parents never gave me any specific instructions. I wish they had had specific instructions for me. For example, they would sit down with me and talk to me to ask questions, explain, and guide me further," Ivanka said.
According to Ivanka, she and her brothers have always had to actively observe to learn how to work effectively. Their parents never intentionally taught them anything. They taught them by practice, by letting them observe for themselves, allowing them to come to the office to sit, study and comfortably watch their parents work.
Her parents were not even in a hurry to assign tasks or encourage her siblings to join the family business. Their lack of interest in the family business did not worry them. If any of the children showed interest in being with their parents while they worked, they would welcome them to the office more often, but they would not teach them much.
"I spent weekends on construction sites just tagging along behind my dad, and I learned a lot from those days just tagging along," Ivanka recalled.

Ivanka understands that her father is very busy but has tried to be there for her in his own way.
Ivanka said: "I still remember when I was little, when I called my father's office, he rarely refused the call. He would turn on the speakerphone and talk to me right in front of colleagues or partners.
He always used sweet words to introduce me to the guests in the room, he praised me publicly, then asked me about my school results.
Ivanka and her siblings understand that their father has to constantly find a balance between work and personal life, but he always gives his children the highest priority.
"My father is not home for every dinner because he is very busy with work. However, he always makes sure he is ready to support his children whenever they come to him," Ivanka confided.
Eric Trump - the third son of Mr. Donald Trump - once revealed in an interview with the New York Times that Mr. Trump is always there for his children in his own way.
Eric said: "My father did not have much time to be with us every day. However, he always let us accompany him as much as possible. Since childhood, we were used to sitting and playing or studying right in his office, witnessing him holding meetings and negotiating with colleagues and partners.
Besides learning from our father's way of working, we also learn many life skills from our grandparents or siblings. We love and admire our father very much. We understand that he is very busy, there is not a day when he is not diligently working.

At home, Mr. Trump encourages playful competition among his children. Ivanka said she and her brothers are always a little competitive with each other when it comes to family fun and entertainment. During winter vacations, for example, they compete to see who can ski better.
As his children grew up, the thing that Mr. Trump valued most was respect for family hierarchy. Ivanka once shared with Politico magazine: "As we gradually entered adulthood, the thing that my father cared about most was the respect we had for the elders in the family.
We were never allowed to raise our voices or get angry with our parents, nor to show any displeasure towards adults, even through our voice. Any disrespectful or inappropriate expression towards adults was taboo in the family."
Joshua Kendall, author of First Dads , analyzed the fatherhood of US presidents. According to Kendall, Mr. Trump does not have much time to be with his children every day, but he shares the responsibility with relatives, babysitters, teachers, etc.
He covers the entire process of his children's growth, always taking the necessary care to create a positive influence on them.

Ivanka had to convince her father to let her join the family business.
For his children, Mr. Trump is not only a father, he is also a work advisor and a boss who manages their work in the corporation.
Ivanka said that since they were young, she and her siblings spent a lot of time in their father's office, witnessing him passionately working, so they all had the intention of participating in the family business early on. It was Mr. Trump's love of work that made his children become hard-working people early on.
When his children graduated from college, Donald Trump did not rush them into joining the family business. On the contrary, he was somewhat skeptical and hesitant when they expressed their desire to join their father in the business.
Ivanka revealed: "Dad always insisted that he did not force us to do anything according to his wishes. He believed that a person could only work at their best if they truly loved their work. He only wanted us to participate in the family business if it was a passion and inspiration for us."
Ivanka believes that her father has a good relationship with all 5 children from 3 marriages because he always respects his children's opinions and views. They can express their thoughts to him frankly, whether they agree or not, he will always show respect for them.

Ivanka served as a senior adviser to Donald Trump during his first four years in office (2017-2021). She is preparing to support her father in the next four years, but likely in a different way.
Ivanka shared in the latest interview: "The US President is the loneliest position in the world . You have to make so many decisions every day, there are so many people who want to do business with you every day.
Close friends always want to sell you things that they think are good and will benefit the country and the world. In fact, the US presidency is a high position but very lonely. During the 4 years of my father's first term, I often thought about this, but now, I will keep a certain distance from it.
Perhaps, from now on, I just want to be by my father's side as a daughter, helping him relax, watching movies and sports with him, so that he can comfortably be himself for a while with his daughter, in the most loving way a daughter can give to her father," Ivanka expressed.
