Recently, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) officially awarded platinum certification to the song "One of the Girls" by The Weeknd, Jennie (Blackpink) and Lily-Rose Depp for more than 1 million units sold in the US.
With this achievement, Jennie became the first Korean female solo artist in history to achieve RIAA platinum certification in the US for a single.
Previously, only three Korean male solo artists had been awarded platinum certification: PSY with the song “Gangnam Style” in 2012, Jungkook with “Seven” (featuring Latto) in 2023, and Jimin with “Like Crazy” in 2023.
“One of the Girls” featuring Jennie is the soundtrack for “The Idol” released on HBO. This is also the movie where Jennie plays the supporting role of Dyanne - a dancer and also the best friend of the female lead played by Lily-Rose Depp.
Although “The Idol” was controversial due to its offensive content, the song “One of the Girls” still made its mark. The song entered the US Billboard Hot 100 chart at number 51, the highest ranking for a female solo Kpop artist.
“One of the Girls” also made Jennie the Kpop solo artist with the second longest-charting song on the Billboard Hot 100 in history (20 weeks), only behind PSY's “Gangnam Style” (31 weeks).
To date, “One of the Girls” has spent over 200 days on the US Spotify Daily Chart, becoming the first song by a female K-pop artist to do so.
Recently, when appearing in a promotional video for the Beats Buds headphone brand, Jennie introduced a new unreleased song. Notably, the rap segment performed by Jennie was revealed and received a lot of attention.
Audiences are looking forward to Jennie's official comeback after "You & Me" released at the end of last year, and after 6 years since her debut single "Solo" (2018).
