Jetstar Australia has been heavily criticised over the past three days after posting offensive comments about Vietnam's currency.
On January 10, on the fanpage with 780,000 followers of the low-cost airline Jestar Australia, a post mentioned the Vietnamese currency: "Sorry but objectively speaking, Vietnamese currency is called dong, which is really funny." "Dong" is a vulgar slang word in English. Under the post, the airline continued to leave a joking comment: "One million dong is equal to 65 AUD (Australian currency), basically if I had 65 AUD I would be a millionaire."
The post was quickly deleted after facing backlash from the community over the joke, which was deemed "tasteless", "disrespectful" and "culturally offensive".

"A fool can joke like that and find it funny. But a famous airline doing the same is stupid," one person commented. "The guy who posted this has both a very low IQ and EQ," another added.
On January 12, the airline issued a public apology on its website, admitting that the Facebook post was “inappropriate” and “should never have been published.” The airline “sincerely apologizes for any offence caused” and pledged to review its processes to ensure a similar error does not occur.
Jetstar Australia, a low-cost airline headquartered in Melbourne, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Qantas and operates a domestic, regional and international network. It mainly operates from Melbourne Airport. It currently flies to Vietnam from Sydney and Melbourne.
