Joao Felix loses shirt number at Chelsea

Once expected to become a new icon of Portuguese football, Joao Felix now faces a harsh reality: being left out of Chelsea's plans even before he officially returns.

The London club has just given the number 14 shirt - the number that belonged to Felix in the first half of last season - to new signing Dário Essugo, who has just joined from Sporting CP. This move is a tacit confirmation that the striker born in 1999 is no longer in the team's plans, despite still having a contract until 2031.

After a lackluster loan spell at AC Milan and being overlooked for Portugal's Nations League campaign, Joao Felix is now not even on Chelsea's list for the Club World Cup - a tournament they will compete in alongside Flamengo, Espérance Sportive de Tunis and Los Angeles FC.

Also omitted from the list are Raheem Sterling, Axel Disasi and Djordje Petrovic - players who were sent out on loan last season. For Felix, this is a clear warning bell of a career that is going downhill.

Having cost Chelsea 52 million euros to recruit from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2024, Joao Felix is gradually becoming one of the most disappointing contracts in Stamford Bridge history.
