Medicine but not everyone can use it
Currently, many people are using blood grass as a drink to treat bone and joint pain. This product is harvested, dried and sold very well by people..., but according to Dr. Quach Tuan Vinh - member of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Oriental Medicine Association , it is necessary to understand the plant clearly and use it correctly to be effective, avoiding doing more harm than good.
Dr. Vinh said that Ke Huyet Dang is a precious medicinal herb in traditional medicine, widely used to treat diseases related to blood and bones and joints. Recently, many scientific studies have been conducted to better understand the chemical composition and biological activity of this plant.
Studies have isolated and identified many compounds from the plant, including: flavonoids; triterpenoids; steroids, alkaloids, coumarins, saponins and tannins.
Studies on the biological activity of the plant have shown that the ethyl acetate extract from the plant has the ability to inhibit nitric oxide (NO) production on RAW264.7 macrophages with an IC50 value of 52.15 µg/ml. The compound apigenin 8-C-glucoside exhibits strong anti-inflammatory activity with an IC50 of 8.25 µM.
The total ethanol extract showed strong inhibitory activity against NO production with IC50 of 46.98 µg/ml and was not cytotoxic. The ethyl acetate and water extracts also showed anti-inflammatory activity with IC50 of 33.07 µg/ml and 95.46 µg/ml, respectively.
In traditional medicine, the taste of the blood-draining vine is bitter and slightly sweet, and has the effect of clearing heat and detoxifying; the sweet taste helps nourish and calm the nerves; the warm nature helps nourish the blood, increase blood circulation, and strengthen the tendons and bones.
Chicken blood vine enters the liver meridian, supporting the treatment of liver blood-related conditions such as pain in tendons and bones, numbness in limbs, irregular menstruation; Kidney meridian: Supports the kidneys, strengthens bone and joint health, nourishes essence and blood; Heart meridian, according to some documents, supports regulating blood and qi, reduces fatigue, and calms the mind.
In traditional medicine, blood-enriching vine is used to nourish and activate blood; Treat blood deficiency causing blood stasis, dysmenorrhea, and blood clot injuries; Strengthen tendons and bones: Treat rheumatism, back pain, and bone and joint pain; Clear meridians: Help circulate blood and relieve pain; Reduce pain and inflammation.
Although the blood-red vine is nutritious, according to Dr. Vinh, the warm nature of the blood-red vine may not be suitable for people with a hot constitution (internal heat), or acute illnesses caused by heat. To ensure the best effectiveness, it is often combined with other medicinal herbs according to each specific prescription.
In particular, some groups of people should not use this plant such as pregnant women, children or people who are allergic to the ingredients of the plant...
When using dried blood grass, it is necessary to ensure that the medicinal herb is not mixed with impurities and other herbs. The use of dried blood grass that is damp, moldy or discolored should also not be done, because there is a risk of poisoning.
