The accident happened to Jeremy Thompson (12 years old) when he was boarding a bus with friends in Mandurah city, Australia.
Jeremy was stuck in the door before he could get on the bus, the driver closed the door and drove away. Jeremy's friends and some witnesses shouted to warn him but the driver still accelerated, causing the bus to drag the boy for 300m.
Jeremy was taken to Peel Medical Center and then transferred to Perth Children’s Hospital. He was admitted with a broken pelvis, back injuries, crushed arms and lacerations to his back. His injuries were so severe that he required skin grafts.
Jeremy told 9News after the horrific accident: “I had just stepped onto the bus when the driver closed the door and I was dragged from the bus stop to the traffic lights. If I had leaned back any further, my head would have hit the wheel. As soon as the driver closed the door, many people told him to stop, even kicked the door, but he kept going.”

Jamie Phillips, a witness who ran after the bus to ask the driver to stop, told local media: “I heard a boy screaming and banging on the door: ‘Let me in, let me in’; I turned around and saw him banging on the bus door.”
She said Jeremy was dragged along the busy Pinjarra Road, where the speed limit is 60km/h. The driver stopped at the Mandurah Road traffic lights. After opening the door to let the boy out, the driver drove off.

The Public Transport Authority (PTA) said the bus driver had been suspended pending an investigation. “The 12-year-old boy got his leg stuck in the door and sustained injuries after being dragged by the bus,” the authority said in a statement. “PTA can confirm that the bus driver has been suspended. The incident is under police investigation and we are unable to comment further at this time. PTA and its contractor are assisting with enquiries.”
Western Australia Premier Roger Cook said Jeremy's injuries were "horrific". "This is a very sad incident and I am confident that the bus driver involved will be held accountable. The PTA will conduct a thorough investigation and the police are also investigating," he said.
Jeremy was not only injured but also suffered psychologically after the accident. His grandmother, Brenda Hart, said the psychological impact caused the boy to have nightmares: "At night, Jeremy wakes up and screams. So I need to take him to see a psychologist for counseling."
