On the morning of May 28th, the People's Committee of Can Tho City held the opening ceremony of the "Connecting Technology Supply and Demand - Key Products, OCOP Linked with Traceability in Can Tho City in 2026" activity, with the participation of managers, scientists , businesses, cooperatives, and OCOP entities from within and outside the Mekong Delta region.
In her opening remarks, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep, emphasized that science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation are becoming key drivers for improving the productivity, quality, and competitiveness of businesses and local products, especially in the agricultural sector and the OCOP program.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep, the city is implementing Plan No. 178/KH-UBND dated April 16, 2026, on the OCOP Program in 2026 and Plan No. 36/KH-UBND dated January 23, 2026, on the Traceability System for the period 2026-2030. Through these plans, traceability activities for key products and OCOP products are gradually being standardized, linked to codes, barcodes, electronic labels, and digital platforms.
However, city leaders also acknowledge that the connection between technology supply and demand remains limited; the linkage between scientists, research institutions, businesses, and producers is not yet truly strong. Therefore, the transition from traditional production methods to smart production based on data and advanced technology is considered an urgent requirement to enhance the value and competitiveness of local products.
Digital transformation paves the way for competitive agricultural products.
Based on this reality, the City proposes that departments, localities, research institutes, and the business community promote the application of science and technology, digital transformation, traceability, e-commerce, and modern logistics; and at the same time strengthen the linkage between the "State-scientists-businesses-farmers," contributing to making Can Tho a driving force center of the region in science and technology and digital transformation.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee on Science, Technology and Environment, Nguyen Phuong Tuan, highly appreciated the initiative of the Can Tho City People's Committee and the Department of Science and Technology in organizing a series of activities connecting technology supply and demand associated with key products and OCOP in 2026.
This is a practical activity aimed at concretizing the socio-economic development goals of the Mekong Delta region using science, technology, and innovation as driving forces.

Creating a foundation for the development of a modern agricultural economy.
According to the leader of the National Assembly's Committee on Science, Technology and Environment, Can Tho continues to affirm its role as the agricultural center of the region with many valuable key products. Currently, the city has 903 OCOP products from 454 entities that have achieved a rating of 3 stars or higher. This is an important foundation for the locality to promote market development, enhance the value of agricultural products, and foster a modern agricultural economy.
Mr. Nguyen Phuong Tuan believes that the technology supply-demand connection should aim to bring technology from research institutes, universities, and laboratories to cooperatives and businesses based on the practical needs of the market. Businesses and OCOP (One Commune One Product) entities need to boldly apply advanced post-harvest technologies, deep processing, and biodegradable packaging to increase product value and expand export markets.
In particular, traceability should be considered a crucial link in the modern supply chain, not just limited to affixing electronic labels, but requiring the development of an interconnected and transparent data system from the growing region to the consumer's table.
The National Assembly's Committee on Science, Technology and Environment is also coordinating the preparation of amendments to the Food Safety Law, creating a legal basis to promote digital traceability, protect consumer rights, and improve the effectiveness of goods quality management.
The event also included a series of scientific seminars on product traceability of OCOP products linked to digital transformation and e-commerce; connecting supply and demand for technology to support the development of OCOP products and key agricultural products to meet market demands, attracting the participation of many managers, scientists and businesses inside and outside the Mekong Delta region.
At the event, leaders from the Department of Science and Technology of Can Tho City and the Department of Science and Technology of Ho Chi Minh City signed a cooperation agreement between the two units. Simultaneously, the Center for Application of Advanced Science and Technology of Can Tho City also signed a memorandum of understanding with the People's Committee of Thanh Phu Commune, Can Tho City, to promote the application of science and technology in the locality.
