According to RT, the second round of direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul on June 2 ended after more than an hour. The Russian delegation was led by Vladimir Medinsky while Defense Minister Rustem Umerov was the head of the Ukrainian delegation.

Speaking to journalists after the talks, Russia's chief negotiator, Vladimir Medinsky, said Russia had given the Ukrainian side a detailed memorandum including proposals for achieving lasting peace and steps for a "comprehensive ceasefire".
Russian negotiator Medinsky confirmed that Moscow and Kiev had agreed on a "biggest ever" prisoner exchange.
"The total number of people exchanged will be no less than 1,000 on each side, and possibly even more. The exchange will include all seriously wounded and seriously ill prisoners, as well as soldiers under 25 years old," Medinsky said.
According to Mr. Medinsky, Russia pledged to return 6,000 bodies of Ukrainian soldiers to Kiev and this will be done next week.
Moscow has proposed a temporary ceasefire of two to three days in some areas to facilitate the collection of soldiers' bodies and prevent potential outbreaks of disease as the weather warms.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s proposal calls for a “complete and unconditional ceasefire” in the air, on land and at sea as a precondition for peace talks. The ceasefire would last at least 30 days and could be extended, with US-led monitoring and support from third countries.
The proposal stresses that Kiev must receive security guarantees with the support of members of the international community. Ukraine insists it does not recognize any territorial losses since 2014.
Regarding the possibility of joining NATO, Kiev said that this depends on consensus within the bloc. Ukraine's proposal also calls for the prisoner exchange process to continue according to the "all for all principle".
A senior Ukrainian official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told the Financial Times that Russia and Ukraine had not made a major breakthrough in the talks, but had made progress as expected.
A TASS source confirmed that Russia and Ukraine are expected to hold a third round of talks. The Ukrainian delegation proposed holding the next meeting before the end of June, but the Russian side has not commented on this proposal.
