Accordingly, many people complained that the electricity bill in August was much higher than in July . "My house's electricity bill increased from 700,000 VND to 1.2 million VND without understanding the reason for the increase, while the weather in August was no longer extremely hot, and there were times when the power was cut off due to storms and rain," commented Na Na.
Truong Quyen account also made a suggestion: "I hope EVN will investigate to see if there are any abnormalities"?
Customer Truong Van Nhat commented: " There are cases where the same index is not wrong at all after 3 months. Anyone who knows, please give your opinion ."
According to observations on the forum, not only in the Central region but also in Hanoi and some northern provinces, many people also reported that their electricity bills in August skyrocketed.
" Last month my family paid 2 million VND for electricity, but this month it's more than 2.2 million VND ," said Ms. Xuan Lan (Vinh Hung ward, Hanoi).
Customer Nguyen Van Huyen ( Ha Nam ward, Ninh Binh province) wondered: " Last month my electricity bill did not increase, but compared to last month, this month I used much less air conditioning. So why is the electricity bill the same as in a hot month when I used all the air conditioners all day? So the bill is still incomprehensibly high."
What does EVN say?
In response to the public uproar over the August electricity bill, a representative of the Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC) said that the unit had received the information. However, because each customer had a different opinion and different amount of electricity used, and the specific address of the customer could not be determined, EVN could not determine any unusual signs.
“To specify each case, we hope that customers will directly report to EVNNPC so that the unit can specifically check the invoice code to evaluate the household's electricity output to see if the consumption is due to household use or if there is loss due to leaking or short-circuited equipment,” he said.

EVN said there were very few errors in recording electricity bills. (Illustration photo: EVN).
Also according to EVN representative, on September 3, the unit received feedback from a customer in Nam Dan ( Nghe An ) posting information that his family was using an average of 1 million VND per month, but in August it was 13 million VND.
“When a customer’s usage has a sudden increase in meter readings or money, EVN never prints a bill but must immediately check it. We monitor customers’ electricity usage habits and have software that warns of any sudden changes. When checking, we found that this customer had posted false information, because normally his family uses more than 7.9 million, but in August it increased to more than 13 million.
The reason for the increase in electricity consumption compared to last month was determined to be due to a short circuit in the family. This is a household that sells vermicelli and eel porridge, so the amount of electricity used is very high. After posting and being inspected and evaluated by EVN, this family apologized for posting false information," EVNNPC informed.
Meanwhile, a representative of Hanoi Electricity Corporation (EVNHANOI) also affirmed: “Up to now, EVNHANOI uses all electronic meters and remote measurements, so it cannot intervene. Another habit that can increase customers' electricity usage is not turning off devices when leaving the house or when not in use. If consumers have any questions, please contact the hotline number 19001288 so that the hotline can transfer information to the electricity companies, from there check the customer codes to assess whether the cause is due to usage or some other cause,” EVNHANOI said.
Also according to EVNHANOI representative, in August, although the weather is milder than in June and July, the weather is still very extreme and hot. Therefore, people still use air conditioning devices regularly, leading to an increase in electricity index as well as high electricity bills.
In addition, electrical appliances in the home may have technical errors inside the machine, causing them to consume more electricity than usual. The devices may leak, have open circuits, especially those that are used frequently every day, even 24/7. In addition, turning on/off or using electrical appliances incorrectly also contributes to high electricity bills.
EVNHANOI said that since May 10, the average retail electricity price has increased from VND2,103.11 to VND2,204.07 per kWh (excluding VAT), equivalent to an increase of 4.8% and so far the electricity industry has not adjusted the selling price.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in the first days of August 2025, the Northern region continued to experience a severe heat wave with outdoor temperatures reaching 46 - 47°C at times. In the face of extreme weather conditions and soaring electricity demand, the national power system has recorded a series of new operational records.
Specifically, in the period from August 1 to 4, 2025, electricity consumption in the North increased dramatically, the maximum capacity of the Northern power system increased to 28,187 MW, 4,000 - 5,000 MW higher than the electricity consumption capacity on Sundays in July 2025.
The maximum capacity of the national power system reached 54,939 MW - the highest level recorded since the beginning of the year and setting a new record, an increase of about 5,000 MW (up 10%) compared to the same period in 2024. Electricity consumption on August 4, 2025 reached 1,112 million kWh, an increase of 86 million kWh (up 8.4%) compared to the same period in 2024.
