NDO - According to information from the General Statistics Office, the number of international visitors to Vietnam in January 2025 reached nearly 2.1 million, an increase of 36.9% over the same period in 2024. This is a new record for Vietnam's tourism industry, surpassing the previous highest number of 1.99 million in January 2020.

In terms of the tourist market, China returned to be the largest tourist market of Vietnam with 575 thousand arrivals, accounting for 27.7% of the total number of international visitors. South Korea ranked second with 417 thousand arrivals, accounting for 20.1% of the total number of international visitors.

Next, Cambodia is the third largest market sending visitors with 100 thousand arrivals, the US ranks fourth with 93 thousand arrivals, Taiwan (China) ranks fifth with 91 thousand arrivals. In addition, Japan, Australia, India, Malaysia and Thailand are the countries with the next largest number of visitors to Vietnam.

According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, thanks to a series of activities to connect, strengthen cooperation, and exchange visitors between authorities, localities, and businesses, the number of Chinese visitors to Vietnam has gradually achieved impressive recovery momentum.

In particular, in November 2024, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism organized a program to introduce Vietnamese culture and tourism in Chongqing and Kunming. This event contributed to further promoting cultural and tourism exchanges between the two countries.

Regarding growth drivers, the main growth drivers in the first month of 2025 of Vietnam's tourism industry come from major markets such as: China increased by 137.4% over the same period in 2024; Cambodia increased sharply by 168.6%; the US increased by 22.3%; Japan increased by 19.3%...

Besides, nearby markets in Southeast Asia also achieved good growth, notably: Philippines increased by 104.9%, Laos increased by 99.4%, Indonesia increased by 7.5%.

January 2025 continued to witness positive growth from European markets. Accordingly, Russia increased by 116.8%; Norway increased by 35.6%; Sweden increased by 31.8%; Germany increased by 22.9%. Countries such as: UK, France, Italy, Spain and Denmark also have promising growth in the number of tourists to Vietnam.

The growth from these markets shows the effectiveness of the Government 's policy of increasing the temporary stay period from 15 days to 45 days for 13 countries with unilateral visa exemption (effective from August 15, 2023).
